The title was just in the bag (and almost in the bag) far earlier than it normally is. No more battling it out until almost the final days of the league. Thats all it is. I just hope that mood and attitude of the players doesnt carry over into early next season because I absolutely can't fathom EVER been in second place to * motherwell...... :31:

Its not been good enough, aims should have been set out at the start of the season like to go unbeaten, to get the double/treble etc...

To get the highest amount possible in terms of points, the league has been dire, football awful to watch most of the time. Yes we won the league but i would hardly call it a league won in style. As i said in another thread i don't believe we are even the most attractive team in this league. Remember attractive not the best.

BTW, Neil Lennon won 24 points in the Mowbray year. So it's not really the worse total is it?

Do players actually run on a park and intentionally only give 50%.
I thought all footballers give everything even if its a training session or a game of 5's.
I love lennon but the points tally is really poor. Mon had the league tied up earlier and still had a massive points tally.

He means Lennon won the last 8 games in a row in the Mowbray season picking up 24 points out of 24 so we havent done worse than Mowbray this season.

Doesn't make sense. I'm not blaming Lennon or comparing this to Lennon's past seasons.

    Absolutely spot on.

I think if we had went at it hammer and tongs, we may not have done so well in Europe.

Not sure which part of the season we have lost more points, maybe someone can point it out, doesn't really bother me in all honesty, we're champs and I'm delighted with that. Only slight concern is being able to pick ourselves up for the cup final. We need to be a bit more sharper and pick it up before then, or it may be a really difficult day.

I would be * off if we don't win the Scottish cup, I always love winning that, something special about it.

Most points were dropped around the Barca game we only won 1 of 5 League games around the 2 Barca games. Then we dropped the other most points around the Juventus games in the 5 League games around them we only won 2.

So at the 5 games after the first and second Barca games we dropped 18 points.

    Barca
    SPL Loss
    SPL Draw
    Barca
    SPL Draw
    SPL Win
    SPL Loss

    Juventus
    SPL Win
    SPL Draw
    SPL Win
    SPL Loss
    Juventus
    SPL Loss

We actually dropped more points in those 10 League games around the Juve and Barca games(18 points) than we have in the other 26 League games(17 points).

I can't say that I am overly bothered by the amount of points we accumulate, as long as the League is won. Yes, I would love it if we could get as many points as we possibly could and try to break the SPL points record set by us, but I am not going to get hysterical if that doesn't happen.

This squad could definitely do a lot more in the League, but what's the incentive for the players to win the League by ten or twenty more points than they already have. The objective for the players is to win the League, pure and simple. I am sure they could give it a right good go to try and break the points record, but could they do that and have the kind of European run we've had this season, I honestly don't think this squad of players have the capability to do both. Maybe I am underestimating our current squad but I don't see this as a vintage Celtic team, I see our squad as a decent one with a good few youngsters trying to prove themselves and also with a decent young manager.

But it's obvious they can definitely do a lot more in the SPL than what they have done this season, but there is no team pushing them and when you have nobody pushing you it is natural to just do enough to get the job done. It isn't right because they get paid a shitload while our fans shell out a small fortune to watch them, but then our fans also have a choice in whether to pay that money to go to games. I know it's not easy just to say no to going to a Celtic game, but if you feel you're not getting value for money then you are under no obligation to go to the games.

The main priority for me this season was to get as far as we possibly could in Europe and for this group of players to reach the last 16 was a remarkable achievement. Before the season started I seriously doubted that we'd even qualify for the group stages so to get as far as we did was a pleasant surprise. Some fans seem to downplay this achievement and there's also fans that say if it wasn't for our European campaign then we'd have had a disastrous season, but on the flipside, if we'd have been knocked out of Europe early on then we would have almost certainly been better domestically so it's a redundant point that one.

Our home form since the Arbroath debacle has been superb and in contrast we've been atrocious away from home. We have been underwhelming domestically and it has been a chore to watch for the most part. Getting knocked out of the League Cup was a sore one, that annoyed me more than any of our poor League results because that one mattered. Winning a treble would have been nice, but I also understand that anything can happen in a one off game.

If we win the Scottish Cup then it will definitely be seen as a successful season by me. If we don't win it then it will definitely put a dampener on the season, but I will still see it as a successful one as our main objectives were achieved, especially in Europe as the League was won before we kicked a ball.

I think of what I would prefer - a season such as this one where we've punched above our weight in Europe while being poor domestically although successful or a season where we're completely dominant domestically but out of Europe before the group stages and for me, I would take our current season every time. Of course, I want it all, I want to dominant domestically and have European success while playing entertaining football but I am realistic in my expectations.

Cheers mate, I think the qualifiers we're probably similar.

I've loved this season in all honesty, and attended more game this year than the past few seasons. Might be a money thing that though :D

Absolutely spot on and well put...

I also think however disappointing it is with our points tally people need to realise that because there is no challenge it will ve like this and maybe next year will be similar to this season, anyone who thinks we would have dropped as many points with a strong challenger in the league are way off we'd have still romped the league!

    We've won the league.

Would you rather we amassed 92 points and lost it like Lenny's first season?

The league has been won, we have a cup final coming up and players are being rested, Lenny is using these games to try out new things and look at less regular players. I think we need to play the long game, we have champions league qualifiers after summer , theres no point in getting stuck in to Ross county etc , getting key players unnecessarily injured for no reason.

We won the league, had a great run in Europe and we've got a final to look forward to in less than three weeks.

I couldn't really care less about the points total. Some of the performances could have been much better and the players could have tried harder for the sake of the fans that had travelled to support them, but it must be hard to get motivated for what is essentially a friendly, after you've won the title.

Not excusing some of the pathetic results, but motivation is undoubtedly a factor.

I've heard people say the fans are inconsistent in wanting a more competitive league and then losing their * when we do get beat, but that isn't really accurate. It is the manner in which Celtic have often lost: lackadaisical, sloppy, apathetic, and disinterested. I don't want to shed too negative a light on the season because of it's spectacular highlights and we are, after all, champions with a chance for a double. But there is no denying or sugarcoating that the level of effort has been embarrassing at times.

Anyone who played any team sport at a competitive level will tell you that one of the most difficult challenges is playing less skilled opponents. "Why" is harder to explain, it just is. It's hard to get and stay motivated. Then again, these are professionals. Expecting a professional effort is reasonable.

The points total may be similar to that of Barnes and Mowbray but that is where the similarities begin and end.

Unbelievable. This is a fantastic example as to why alot of Celtic fans have been spoiled with success. We got into the last 16 of the CL, we have won the league and have a cup final to look forward to. What more do you want?

Players aren't going to turn up to meaningless games and give it there all. It's just not going to happen.
