    haha brilliant:56:

as has been said before, no such thing as an inherently bad dog breed. even Argentinos and Tosas arent born more agressive than other dogs. Yes they were bred for aggression but so were Rottweilers. Rotties are after all the descendants of the Romans' war dogs. Its how you treat a dog as a pup that determines their behaviour. Give it positive reinforcement and a little discipline and it'll grow up a perfectly behaved dog

I wholeheartedly agree that bad dogs are a cause of bad owners. I have a Japanese akita and you couldn't meet a more loyal companion. He is great with all family and friends and especially kids.

My ex had two Staffies, dogs with a bad rep and they were the two most playful dogs I've ever met.

I actually think little dogs can be much much worse in terms of aggression but get away with it cause of their size and the fact they don't cause as much damage, I actually despise little ankle biters lol.

But to re iterate there is no doubt that a dogs behaviour is linked to its upbringing IMO.

I must admit I do feel a bit wary around certain types of dogs and it does seem to be the same breeds caught up in these sort of things all the time, but I'd probably be on the side of bad owners.

There should be some sort of betting process for owning one, a licence or something like that.

I agree with much of what you say, but the Rottweiler wasn't bred for aggression. It was used for its exceptional herding and protective instincts.

An unspoilt example of the breed won't go looking for trouble as they're very confident in their ability to look after themselves. Mess with it, it's herd, or its pack-leader and it will defend very convincingly though!!! :86:

One thing that may prove disconcerting to some is the way many Rottweilers use their mouth to get your attention, or to take you somewhere it wants you to go to (empty water bowl, toy, etc)... it will either gently nip you (I'm talking just enough to grab any hairs on the back of your hand), or it will take your hand fully into its mouth and lead you. I find it quite an endearing trait!

Another thing is their apparent lack of awareness of their strength whilst at play. They will flatten anyone in a South Sea Islander rugby-hit stylee who dares get in between them and a thrown ball. :smiley-laughing002:

I'm a dog lover, but the big black-and-tan variety is far and away my favourite. Every one we've had has been a playful cuddle-monster.

I had a German shepherd from the age of 6 weeks until she died aged 12.she was an amazing intelligent animal that done everything she was told.the only time she was allowed off her leash was in the park running about.she was never aggressive until the door went as at the end of the day she was a guard dog.I have nephews and nieces and when they visited I'd put her in the room because they were in her territory and all it could take was the wrong move so I didn't any chances.one thing I'll will always do when owning a dog especially a German shepherd is go for the female of the species,I find them less liking to challenge for the alpha male status,I also find them more intelligent, more tolerant and more loyal.that's my own opinion remember but when it comes to dogs the slightest thing can set them off, something simple like being too warm so prevention like making sure it can't happen is better than saying no you'll be fine he/she is really friendly,I just never took the chance.

    I'm not picky.
I've seen a good few of them and I don't think I have ever seen one that wasn't hyper :smiley-laughing002: Seem like good fun dogs to have, actually, because with all that energy to burn then I think it's good for the dog and the owner. Exercise for both parties :smiley-laughing002:

So these "snarling, blood thirsty, killer dogs" should be banned but jack russell's shouldn't even though proof has been posted that they can be just as dangerous to a child as a pit-bull? :87:

I suppose it's the fault of these "snarling, blood thirsty, killer dogs" that they are off their lead and come charging towards you as well. It's the owners responsibility to have proper control of the dog, have them on a lead & have them properly trained.

3 Akita owners. One with a decent reply. I rest my case.

There's also a stereotype about Celtic fans... you must be a terrorist supporting scumbag !!

You, nor UH know any of us Akita owners or what we are like so you just both keep up the judgemental, ignorant comments and opinions. Makes you pair look more like idiots than any of us that are being judged because we apparently "think our dugs are the baws"... because we love our dogs, just like people with dalmations love their dog, people with yorkies love their dog and so on. But then again it's ok for them because their dogs haven't got a bad reputation due to stereotyping from folk like you two.

I don't think my dog is any better than anyone else's dog so the original comment is utter rubbish. I don't use my dog as some sort of status symbol. Some people just prefer large dogs to small dogs... till you have had, and brought up one of these dogs then really have no right to comment or judge them based on your naive views.

With the comment you made about me, then what you have wrote here shows you as a hypocrite.

    Back to the dog, however.

Akita's have a terrible reputation for not being safe around families, they are highly strung dogs with a very short temper. Ok, its not fair to generalize but it is prestigious dog and pet societies saying this, not me. They take special care and looking after, with mindful respect of their traits.

Owners of Akita's especially round Glasgow and the UK are also stereotyped as using this dog as an extension of his own manhood. Thinking they look like a hard man because they have the big scary dog. The new Rottweiler I guess. Again, this is a stereotype but it is also the truth.

I have had a lot of experience around Akita's and I know a few people like I described above.

People who genuinely look after these dogs and provide them with the correct care and environment deserve praise.

Also, I don't want to be Asian.

Slightly off topic, but what do you think is the smartest breed of dog?

I am generalising as I don't know much about dogs (never had one) but I tend to find the larger breeds friendlier with a bit more personality than the wee small ones that yelp all the time and have beady wee eyes.

I'd quite like a dog for * like this:

That sentence alone tell me all I need to know about your knowledge of the breed. Which shows me that you are just ignorant about the breed and judge them due to looks and the bad press they get from people who know little about them.

Just the same as people say Rotties or Staffys are not to be trusted round kids when that couldn't be further from the truth. When infact if they are brought up around kids who are well behaved they are great family dogs, the same as any other breed of dog.
