I know but you understand what I'm getting at.

We need to see more drive and inspiration from him if he is to play. Just, anything really. He is not leading like a captain should be.

Whereas the aforementioned Erik is, I believe. He is the kind of guy you build a team around.

Aye, tonight he passed the buck and hid like everyone else. That is unacceptable from our Captain. Absolutely unacceptable.

I've been in defence of Brown all summe, but I won't defend his performance tonight.

Don't disagree, but at the same time it's probably difficult for him to be sending rockets when he's having a * game himself, kind of looks like an * then.

I don't think his lack of drive or desire in the game was actually for a lack of trying. I know that is slightly contradictory but I just don't think it was the type of game that particularly would suit him. His main strengths for me are generally the amount of times he wins the ball back in a game and how retains possession well under pressure. It's games like tonight where we have all the ball and we need to create something or unlock a packed defence that just don't suit him.

I'd be more critical of our players that are supposed to be more creative or have quality in the final third- Rogic, Christie and even Bitton. Although to be fair we were against * part timers tonight, so I'm probably actually being too lenient with Brown. You'd like to think he'd be able to create something against that level of opposition...

I do think you may be trying a bit hard to defend him tonight. I have defended brown, but I was apalled by those 2 in midfield tonight. Neither of them wanted to quicken things or try and make anything happen. It was a cowardly performance against Part timers.

Yeah I agree, he does need to up it. Ideally all our players would be like Erik. We lack characters all around the pitch.

Possibly am but I genuinely thought he wasn't anywhere near the worst tonight. I thought Bitton was noticeably worse and players like Christie, Rogic, Janko and even Tierney were all worse. Not that that says much for him in fairness.

It's not really his performance tonight I'd have an issue with people criticising anyway, it's him as a player for Celtic overall.

Bitton was worse. Christie was too. Rogic was bad but was crowded, Janko was *. It takes pretty much the full team as a collective to have a stinker for a result like that, I don't deny he wasn't the worst. But the one person on the pitch who SHOULD stand up and try to kick start the team, didn't. He did nothing and that is shocking. A captain has to stand up.

Doesn't deserve the armband after that. No way.

The problem is we all said...bit off form..will come back...or carrying a injury but these really poor games are starting to pile up.....its no longer one or two its weeks and months at a time then a few good games and back to crap again....no wonder ronny failed.

He doesnt deserve the armband for more than just that performance. Cast your mind to the last two seasons in europe where he went missing in our biggest games. Maribor, malmo and Molde.
What about the League cup semi v Rangers. awol. embaressed by Halliday.
I could continue.. the time for change is now.

He shouldn't be playing just because he's wearing the armband. It's supposed to be the other way around: you have to earn the armband with your performances on (and off) the pitch.

And right now, that's just not the case. At the moment, he's nothing more than a school-yard bully, trotting around and winding people up. But when it comes to playing actual football and contributing to the team, he's invisible. Should be dropped.

I agree with this, last night he was more interested in scrapping and winding up part timers.....maybe more his level. :smiley-laughing002:

I'd replace him with an Ivan Močinić type player with real drive and mobility.

Been a supporter of Scott Brown for a long time but i think his time is up here,as the captain at least. We need a leader in the team who can rally them when things are going * up and he's just shown time and time again he's just not up to the job.

Posted in the 2nd leg thread but obviously more relevant in here:

I've maintained for a long-time we should be aiming higher. £25k p/wk for a guy with such limited technical ability is ridiculous. Absolutely abysmal passing and doesn't score enough goals, when he was younger he was redeemed by his ability to win the ball back and harry opponents, now that's gone it's difficult to see what he offers us.

The problem being I don't see Rodgers dispensing of Brown going on his early interviews; and even if he did I'm not convinced we'd find a buyer on his current terms.

Whilst I'm not discounting he's given us some good performances over the years, he's also been the consistent factor in a long list of shambolic performances - many as captain. Ross county semi-final x 2, Utrecht, Killie CIS cup final, St. Mirren semi-final, Sevco semi-final...off the top of my head. Whilst there are many other contributing factors that's one * of a list - and there's probably a good few I've forgot about.

The drive, energy and fight have gone in my opinion. When they left Brown's game, he was always going to be a poor player, because he is poor technically. Injuries appear to have caught up with him, and this isn't getting based on just last night. Both he and Bitton are far too slow in possession, and I think his time is coming to an end in terms of playing week in week out.

Kinda wish an Imps boy did the Broony in front of him last night

But then I realised, he probably wouldn't care and would just opt for his 'laugh' in retort. His bank account will soften any criticism

    Kyogo. A phenomenon
Genuine concern he's on a slide now that he won't recover from........and that means we are seriously * in centre mid unless some real quality comes in.

10 million man Bitton.....worth about 5 million half the time when he can be arsed. That's not going to move us forward.
