Tells me about it,the bell housing is tiny with a small clutch pack, they over heat
I found this out on the M8,nudging forward in heavy traffic, you * badly only way to over come it is rev to 1500-2000 rpm while pulling forward

It will cost around £1100 to fit a new clutch I would rather sell the car

Had a Mondeo ST220. Worst car i have ever owned. Expensive to tax, insure and run (24mpg woooooo). Rusted around the door sills and never passed one single MOT out of 4 in total. Spent over £2k just keeping the thing running in last couple of years.
Got shot of it and got a Vauxhall Insignia CDTi. Getting 500 odd miles from a tank of fuel.
And it doesn't feel as slow off the mark compared to the Mondeo as i thought it would - i have the 160bhp version right enough.
And i think it's quite a sexy car in the metal myself.
I clean the DPF myself and the MAF sensor as well as they do get clogged up with soot.
Toothbrush and WD-40 and good as new.
And the Mrs doesn't even know i've used her brush.

I had to get my dpf removed not long after I got my car.

The remap that went with it made it worth while :icon_mrgreen:

Just wait until the MOT, you'll need someone to be lenient with their visual check. You need the DPF by law now and people are getting pulled up for it.

Diesels are also stinking beasts. They really need the DPF to keep the filth away from people.

Don't ever buy a modern diesel if you are doing short trips. It will fail sooner rather than later.

Even then, a DPF will only last 70-80,000 miles on average. It's a big bill that wipes out a lot of the money saved on fuel.

DPF's only fail if they are not cleaned or you turn the car off constantly when it's self cleaning.
Stop getting your pants in a twist about DPF's :smiley-laughing002:

    @ThumbFloyd

I know someone who got his Insignia CDTi remapped - 225bhp and 374lbs of torque :88:
Had to stop as any more torques and he risks his DMF exploding :smiley-laughing002:
What did you get done? He also disabled his DPF and had no probs at MOT's.

Aye I think the previous owner had used the car for school runs and nipping about town, not exactly what a big diesel was built for.

I got the dpf completely removed and a 2.5" downpipe fitted then remapped all by ecotune, 274bhp and 475lbs of torque.

On regards to dpf and the law, I've seen a lot of people state this on various owner forums but I've yet to see one post saying "my MOT failed because of dpf removal"

Although I'm willing to be proved wrong :smiley-laughing002:

It would be one * of a jobsworth tester anyway lol

It doesn't "self clean" when you're likely to turn it off. It only releases the soot when driven at higher speeds, for longer periods and up to temperature.

It doesn't "self clean" either. It does release some of the soot, but it can't release all of the build up. It gradually builds up on all cars.

225bhp from a remap on an Insignia diesel? The only one that has a chance of getting close to that is the modern twin turbo model. If it's the older 2.0cdti, I'd take about 40bhp off that guesstimate.

Loads of people have failed. I guess you aren't on many car forums?

Why would it have to be a jobsworth? It's their job to test cars in accordance with the actual requirements.

Should they ignore petrol cars without a CAT, or bald tyres?

Aye because bald tyres is the same isn't it? :smiley-laughing002:

    Care to post some links?

My car went to a reputable garage for a MOT and passed with my dpf completely removed.

    Good enough for me.

Google it. There has been loads on car forums. I've lost count how many people have been pulled up. Seen it first hand quite a few times.

I know loads of people with tuned cars that have to put their CATs back on for their MOT as it's part of the MOT and has to be tested for emissions. MOT testers won't cheat, or overlook the lack of a CAT.

The diesel test is too lenient and more a matter of opinion. When the DPF is under a cover, they have an excuse. However you can still tell with the amount of smoke.

You can drive perfectly fine on bald tyres, in the right condition, without harming anyone.

Do you realise how harmful diesel is? It's a known carcinogenic.

I have Googled it and I'm struggling to find anything hence why I asked for you to post some links.

The car with dpf removed passes emissions tests and produces no more smoke under load.

I'm not asking anyone to suck on my tailpipe in that way. :smiley-laughing002:

Again, I'm not sure what the bald tyre talk is about.

Edit: found a post on a mazda 6 forum becausee her car failed on emissions.

Just the fact it breaches the MOT test requirement and both are for health and safety reasons.

Diesel cars don't get tested for emissions. They only have a smoke density test which is still in line with diesel cars from the stone age.

You don't need to suck your tailpipe.

You didn't need to suck a petrol car's tailpipe, but the majority of people accept they have to have a CAT to reduce the harmful emissions, even though they are nowhere near as harmful as diesel.

DPFs fail all too often and it's cheaper for a removal and remap. You'll be near £2000 for a 330d for a DPF replacement. So more and more people are going for it as the cheap alternative.

Diesel is filthy, horrible fuel that is burned off early in the process of making petrol.

It breaches an MOT test as of February 2014, so your telling me before then everyone was I'm severe danger because of removed dpf?

2k is nonsense for a dpf 1k for a new one from the dealer but you can pick them up a lot cheaper than that.

Still waiting on all these links :smiley-laughing002:
