It doesn't tell the full story of the extent or the warranty claims but the fact 1in27 Audi drivers had to make an engine warranty claim against 1in344 of Honda drivers says enough.

That is a lot of failures and inconvenienced drivers.

I drive a BMW 335i and I'm not going to claim it has been 100%. Never has it broken down or anything but quite a few things had to be put right under manufacturers warranty.

The people I know with 1.8/ 2.0 petrol turbo and 1.9/2.0 diesel VW/Audi all seem to have more than their fair share of issues.

Between that and the amount of Audis getting stolen I know a lot of people who are desperate to ditch their Audi.

Japanese cars are the most reliable but just a bit clinical for me. Hard to explain why but I just don't find most of their cars appealing.

Maybe a Lexus IS-F next car though as one of the few exceptions.

For a normal day-to-day driver who is only interested in something nice to get from A to B reliably I would always recommend Japanese first.

I drive a 318d, 2006 model 2lt engine the some of the problems are a pain in the * to be honest

    Comfort
    Visibility
    Door handles
    Clutch
    Traction
    Rear wheel drive
    Value

Must admit on a dry road they go great, good fuel economy 48m to the gallon
And £125 road tax is ok

But these issues above are a major down fall

I have a Ford Focus great all round car, going for a newish ST3 soon so with 7k you can get one with decent milage, great looking with comfort and can also go a bit.

    VWs are great as well.

I wond tend to stay away from BMW's tbh my mate has a 330 and he says the price of parts and running the thing is mental, fast as * though.

I've had my 335i since 2010 and it costs no more than a Focus ST to run.

Cheaper insurance, better fuel economy, servicing isn't anywhere near as expensive as people make out either.

Higher powered FWD cars chew through front tyres trying to get the power down.

The ST is more costly than you think.

RWD is the best unless it snows. Snow tyres work though.

Many of the 2.0d cars had clutch problems. Another reason to be careful.

The desirability of diesels is out of control. Most people pay over the odds for a diesel and never make use of it.

A nice used 320d coupe costs the same as a similar 335i. Mental, absolutely mental.

Is it a 10 plate or have you had it since 2010?

Just want to try an insurance comparison.

    Edit: 335i group 18

    St-3 group 17

Don't judge by insurance groups. It really isn't a direct link.

It was 2 years old when I bought it 08 plate. I was looking at hot hatches but the 335i made more sense and is much much faster.

I was getting quotes of over £500 for Mazda 3 MPS, Leon Cupra R etc and my 3l twin turbo BMW is £380.

Road tax after 57 plates is £260.

The major service at a BMW dealer was £430.

My approved BMW extended warranty is £380 per year. That is every third service/6 years.

You struggle to run a hot hatch for the same money without cutting corners or saving small amounts not worth mentioning.

I'd avoid the Skoda Octavia... we have a fleet of 6 at work and they are forever in at the garage getting fixed (mostly clutch hydraulic problems).

My suggestion would be a Ford Mondeo. Boring as *, but does a grand job for the money.
