Bale overrated? I'm no Spurs fan by any means, but the guy is class. His goal against Norwich a couple of nights ago was sensational.

He just needs to make that one final step up from Tottenham (Man United or Chelsea perhaps) to realize his true potential and become a world class player, as opposed to a player with the potential to be world class.

If he moves to a bigger, richer club (one that competes in Europe regularly), then I think we will see the very best of him.

 

Not sure I can think of a whole team atm but I'd pick Hart (he is pish imo) and Terry from yours and chuck in Modric (still cant believe that RM bought him), Ribery and Kroos from Bayern and the madman that is Ballotelli.

Bale, Busquets and Rooney are not overrated for me. Torres can be argued to be now purely because of the price tag and his underwhelming performances, but then he's certainly not overrated by commentators, pundits and fans that's for sure. He was playing better and rightly praised a lot more before the move. Strictly speaking though, he is the very definition of being overrated I suppose :smiley-laughing002:

I wouldn't say Ferdinand is over-rated as when he was in his prime he was an amazing defender.

Torres at one point was one of the best strikers around at one point and his been * from injuries and now the price tag.

Bale is not either

 

Cant be bothered making an 11...

Half the people signed by Russian teams this season (Ie overpriced like Wilian, Witsel, Hulk).
Zaha (not worth 15 million)
Butland (not worth 6 million)

Main one would be Welbeck, how the * does he get near the Man U team??

Also, the young English players in Championship/League 1, like the Barnsley guy that some PL team signed... £3 million?!

Edit - Lampard aswell, he has a good goal scoring record yes, but that's just cause he takes pens

 

I might attempt a proper answer in a wee while, but one thing's for sure: Welbeck will be up front for me.

 

Thing is, because we don't have access to the media in other European countries, the ones that seem most overrated to us will nearly always be overrated by the English media - so they will be mostly English, with some foreign EPL players.

Undoubtedly true, our exposure to the nonsense which comes with Sky and BBC EPL coverage will probably skew our thinking, that's not to say they aren't overrated in a footballing sense as well though. By which I mean, the clubs they play for are over-reflective of their ability - Welbeck, Cleverley, Smalling, Rodwell, Henderson, Barry and Adebayor from the ones you've mentioned all fall into that category for me.

I think a lot have his diving antics in mind when saying he's overrated. When it comes to technical ability, both for the position he plays and in general, he is very much not overrated for me.

 

Bale is overrated to * imo the amount of hype he gets youd think he was english. Aye hes a good player but nowhere near the top players in the world.

 

Problem is, the number of folk on this thread who have come out and suggested he is first class is just further proof of how overrated he really is. :smiley-laughing002:
