If Lenny wanted him and Russell came, then great, and if not, c'est la vie.
It does/did seem like he was a bargain, but I'd hazard a guess that Lenny knows a bit more about him as a player than any of us, so if he isn't that fussed about signing him, I'm not that worried about him not coming here.

Hopefully true, ideally some more credible sources will report this throughout the day.

The hijack is on!! So, Derby made a bid, the bid got accepted, Russell agreed to sign, but hasn't signed yet, we can still hijack this deal.

Yeah, not the most reliable mate. But i have a feeling he will be a Celtic player in the not to distant future. We have 4 days to get this sorted.

Daily Record is hardly the bastion of truth.

If we really wanted him we would have been in for him long before now, IMO.

I think we were waiting because if we had made a bid then they would demanded more money from us so this way we wait till another team have their bid accepted and then we pounce. I was getting worried because history has showed us the SPL have made many a good Preiership football with whom we should have signed for peanuts but didn't. McCarthy, Fletcher etc.

If Lennon sees him in his plans then fair enough

If he isn't, so be it

Gerry McCulloch saying we're not putting in a bid, I'd be more inclined to believe him than the Record.

It's Celtic's call but it could be something we regret in later years. For the sake of less than a million quid it's a no brainer for me.

Or signing Russell (plus another striker) could possibly dent Watt and Atajic's development.

    As Ivan Drago once said:

    "If he dies, he dies........."

    Pulled from today's Daily Record:

CELTIC last night made a last-ditch move to sign Dundee United hitman Johnny Russell.

The Tannadice club have accepted a bid from Derby County for Russell who is due to travel to Pride Park on Monday to undergo a medical and finalise personal terms.

But Record Sport understands Celtic have now officially entered the race for the sought-after striker and appear to be favourites to land him.

Italian Serie A outfit Catania and Reading are also in the chase but Neil Lennon is in pole position to keep the player in the SPL. The Celtic boss is determined to hijack the Rams’ move by tempting Russell with a lucrative offer and the chance to be part of his team’s Champions
    League campaign.

United accepted a bid of around £750,000 for the 23-year-old, who has a year of his contract to run, and discussions are continuing with his representatives, Viola FC.

A United spokesman confirmed Derby’s intention to seal the deal.

He said: “The transfer is expected to be concluded after the player has completed the
    necessary formalities early next week.”

But Celtic are now in the driving seat to snap up a player Lennon once tried to sign for £500,000.
