I've known for a while that Big Vic was only passing through and am not that surprised that Hooper has been linked with the EPL, I like our current business model with players like these two and Ki (buy 'em cheap, develop them, sell 'em on for a lot more money); but I am getting sick and tired of hearing so ridiculously many of our players linked with EPL clubs. First Forster, then Liverpool wanted Sammy and now Norwich want Kayal, apparently. :31:

FS Forster only just signed and is developing his career perfectly well here, Kayal and Sammy both love the club (why the * would Kayal want to leave us for Norwich?! :87:). This is pure arrogance, you can't just take whoever you want you arrogant p****s! :bash:

It's one thing with players like Wanyama who are obviously using us as a stepping stone to the EPL, all three parties (or four if you count the bloodsucking agent) will win when we sell him on for £15 million or more; but we should not even contemplate selling players like Kayal and Sammy who have developed a bond with the club and I don't think either will go.

Are there any of our better players (apart from Brown) that the UK media hasn't linked with EPL clubs this last 3 months? This is really starting to get annoying. :triplomur

    Any comments? :54:

The better we do in the CL the more attention our players attract from the media which leads to transfer rumours so they can fill newspapers, most of the rumours are nonsense. However, i'd rather have players like Watt who want to play for the club than players who see us as a path to a bigger league. If these players get sold then so be it. Our scouting system has showed we can find talented players to replace them if needs be.

    Nice rant :50:

The media are just reporting the facts , no different from Lennon being reported when he went to watch the likes of Jordan Rhodes , Shane Long etc .

You'll always get paper talk. To be honest I'm not sure if Kayal has that strong a bond with the club but on recent form he won't be going anywhere anyway as no on would be interested.

That Kayal thing is the most generic pile of pish you could imagine.

[Insert Manager Here] was at the home of [Insert Player's club] to watch [Insert Player] with a view to a signing the player in the January transfer. [Insert Club] are weak in [Insert Player Position] and this could help bolster their squad for the season run in.

True. The journalist never offered any evidence Hughton was here to watch Kayal. TBH that doesn't make it any less annoying.

Disagree. He's had injury troubles, but quality doesn't go away.

If any side bids £5m for Kayal he will be off and Celtic will be banking the dosh.

I'm not so sure. With the knowledge Vic is off Lennon might value him higher.

You may be right, but given that Wanyama is (surely) going in the summer and Brown's hip could give out at any time that strikes me as somewhat short-sighted. And anyway, what if he doesn't want to go to a team like Norwich?

And why do you think Ki joined Swansea City ? Simple it's a stepping stone to bigger things if he does well in the prem , i would say Kayal would view it exactly the same .

Ki always gave me the feeling that he was never that bothered about Celtic, Wanyama gives me the same feeling. I don't have that feeling from Kayal. True, if Manchester Utd or Liverpool etc come in for him he'd have to consider it; but I don't think he's trying to plot a way to one of these clubs via a small club like Norwich or Swansea. I think he likes it here (when he's not getting subbed).

the way i feel, despite our progression in the champions league, is that teams in the epl see us as somewhat as a feeder club that can just develop players which can be easily taken off us by a few words in the press

It's just the media, don't let it annoy you so much.. I just ignore it and actually wait until transfers actually happen.

I hope you don't mean that Swansea is a step up from Celtic.

I understand though that the EPL has a larger audience than the SPL and more exposure could lead to a big move whilst playing in the EPL.

But surely our players realize that playing in the best comp in the world (CL) will get them big moves, not playing for a mid table prem team.

How can anyone in this day and age be seriously bothered about the media linking our players with other clubs?

It makes me wonder why half of these players would consider leaving. Unless like Wanyama you are linked with big teams in the EPL, we're offering champions league football that these teams like Norwich can't?

This is not always going to be the case as history shows. However hopefully the players we have currently have had their appetite whetted and will be keen to stay and emulate what they have achieved this year so far in Europe.

I'm not. I'm bothered about the fact that nearly every player we have, as soon as he hits any kind of form, immediately gets linked with one or more EPL clubs. Sometimes it's a big club; but often it's a pretty small club and it's the assumption that players would rather play for these smaller clubs than Celtic just because they're in the EPL that most annoys me.
