Why the F would the nationalist/Republican side even contemplate accepting that rag fleg? After what they`ve been through as a population and what they have suffered over the years in the name of that fleg, the writer must be a * moron.:31:

Being born in Scotland and never having suffered even a tiny fraction of what has happened to the nationalist/republican communities,I can`t nor ever will accept that flag,I despise the sight of it and what it represents. So what chance in the occupied six?

Would there any appetite for a neutral flag, one that doesn't have any political connotations either way and simply relates to the geography of the province (or 'nation', for people of that inclination)?

    Something like kosovo's flag:

It would save a lot of hassle, but I can't see anyone going for it. Too sensible. I guess you couldn't avoid the partition reference though, with the six counties instead of nine.

    That's the flag of Cyprus.

And simply, no: there isn't any appetite for a so-called "neutral" flag in a broad sense. Though many local councils and agencies (i.e., the Fire Brigade) choose to fly the council's own flag or their own agency flag.

Whoops, I originally planned to post about Kosovo's flag but Cyprus popped into my head at the last minute. :smiley-laughing002:

Easy done. They both use maps.

    Cyprus:

    Kosovo:

Incidentally the Kosovo state flag is abhorred by many in surrounding countries as they believe it is simply a rebus for Greater Albania - the six stars standing for the six Albanian-inhabited territories, so it's not as neutral - at least to some - as it first appears.

Likewise, the Cyprus flag is largely used by Greek Cypriots - that's why the Annan Plan proposed a new, even more "neutral" flag for a confederal Cyprus:

Loyalist symbolism seems very inorganic to me, their favourite symbol is an ancient Irish one and their favourite flag comes from across the water.

The thing with that though, is that due to the nature of the conflict, no flag could be neutral. If it is a flag representing the partition of the island of Ireland then that is in itself not neutral.

The flag of Ireland is this, and only this:

There is a neutral flag available,

It has Green for the Nationalist people, Orange for the Unionist people and a white band in the middle to represent the peace between both traditions :icon_mrgreen:

I would happily accept the Union Jack flying over council buildings, just as long as the tricolour was right beside it. I have absolutely no issues with people in this country being proud to be British but they should acknowledge that there is a sizeable community who do not want to be British. The sad fact is that the people on the streets recently are people who have no catholic friends and so assume that all Catholics are evil and want to destroy their identity. It works the other way round as well in west Belfast. The best thing that could happen here is mixed faith education. Never happen though

    Hence my last sentence.

I just think that the polity needs a neutral flag (if only an interim one...:86:), the province already has one but the Unionists would see it as republican.

Protestantism and paganism hand in hand... :97:

Okay, so I understand the Saltire, but why the St. George's cross?

Correct. Albanians mostly wave Albania's flag.
About Cypriot flag, it was disaigned by a Turkish Cypriot woman.
Yes, a Turkish woman made it.
I don't know what is the problem with the Cyprus flag. Very neutral and beautiful. Turks want Cyprus only for them, they will make problems, because they don't agree anything about Cyprus.

The Union Flag is a symbol for Fascism, it should be made illegal because it's pretty much the same as the Swastika * flag.

    Horrible looking thing.
