You keep harping on about Gaston * Ramirez and this £12m price tag as if it's something good. It bought you 5 league goals last season :smiley-laughing002:

Last year, we had 10 very big European games, 8 of them against some of Europe's top clubs. Did Southampton really have substantially more?

Imagine bragging because of some sugar daddy owner. :56:

Stature, support, heritage are things to brag about. Not some bored billionaire playing with his excess cash.

I can imagine computer generated pictures going down really well with any potential signings.

What the * is a Southampton exactly?

A pish wee club that has become rich because they play in an overpriced and overrated league that is funded by Sky. No tradition, meaningful history or sizeable fanbase to speak of. On you trot.

Last season Southampton beat at home and drew away against the reigning European Champions and the reigning English Champions.

    Chelsea 2 - Southampton 2

    Southampton 3 - Man City 1

Wanyama would have had a lot of fun if he played in those games.

Better than playing away at Ross County or Partick Thistle or Inverness or St Johnstone?

    I'm sure anyone would of.

They're very different though. One will go down in history as one of the CL great nights, a fairytail story with an 18 year old bagging the winner against possibly the best club side of all time, on his clubs 125th anniversary.

The other will make the MOTD highlights and then be forgotten about.

The achievement is considerably less than Celtic beating Barcelona, considering the difference in spending between both clubs... not to mention the difference in wages.

Yes, because those league games are comparable to the game in the Nou Camp or beating Spartak away, at home and oh....BEATING BARCELONA at home, infront 60k fans with that display from the fans. :56::56::56:

You failed to note that those 2 wins were out of a whopping 9 overall! Imagine the glamour.

Maybe a poor standard of league but there's more to us than the SPL. For a start, there's European success that Soton could only dream of. Have you even been in the European Cup?

Then there's the global recognition of playing for a club supported worldwide. Get many Southampton supporters bars in the US?

Then there's the chance to win silverware. As Georgios Samaras said recently:

"I play football because I love it. I want to have great memories when I have retired. These memories are about winning games and trophies, not the money."

Get many of those at Southampton?

Lets say the situations were reversed?

Do you think Southampton would make the CL in a small league and do you think Celtic would be content on surviving in the EPL? I don't think so.

Money and everything aside... when was the last time Southampton won ANYTHING?

If Wanyama goes to a club like that, he's going for the money and not because he wants to further his career.

Well Sky is where some of the money came from, but the large fanbase you dismiss and the owners also play a part.

What is your definition of tradition and meaningful history?

    - Southampton have been in the top flight of a far more competitive league system than Scotland for 36 of the last 47 years.
    - They have been in 11 FA Cup semi finals and 4 FA Cup finals and 1 League Cup final.

This isn't a 2 horse race league system like in Scotland, achieving things in England is tricky.

There is a large number of teams in the Championship, League 1 and even League 2 that would comfortably be the 3rd biggest side in Scotland if they moved. Southampton would be one of them.

"No sizeable fanbase to speak of" - Really?

    - Celtic last season were Champions and averaged 45k.
    - Southampton last season were newly promoted and struggled early on and averaged 31k in a 32k stadium with numerous games sold out.

If Southampton had a bigger capacity they'd be even close to Celtic's average despite being a bottom half team. If Southampton actually competed in the top half of the Premier League they'd get very close to Celtic's average if the stadium capacity allowed it.

Ha got to love the Southampton fans.

    * club playing in a league that is flush with cash. Celtic is interwoven into the history of countries. Southampton are....I'm struggling to think of anything that separates you from all of the other deluded diddies like Hull, West Brom, Birmingham etc.

How does it feel to be so reliant on Rupert Murdoch?
