Spartak Moscow v Celtic Tue 2 Oct 5.00pm KO Live on Sky Sports 2

Discussion in 'Celtic Chat' started by Lion1961, Sep 29, 2012.

I remember saying before a game was played that Spartak will be a bigger threat than Benfica, more tricky players to deal with.

  1. I agree Spartak have more attacking threat than benfica, benfica are a much more solid side who have very good players in most positions. Spartak have genuine quality upfront.

Their problem can be they ship goals far too easily and their form can be erratic.

This is the team I would play. Just really hope Hooper starts, I thought we really missed him against Benfica and looked alot more dangerous when he came on.

  3. Attack this mob is the way to go about it ,Not gun ho but when the chance arises ,If we sit back we will get thumped.

  4. Good news is that Pareja, Welliton, Parshivlyuk, Jurado and Romulo are all injured - with Dykan (keeper) possibly being out too. Still a threat but these are really important players for Spartak.

  5. A point will be good but 3pnts would be amazing, also we really need 3pnts after dropping points at home but i cant see us winning. Spartak have some fine players in Ari,Emenike,De Zeeuw and ofcourse a certain McGeady.
I noticed he wasnt even on the bench for their 3-1 win yesterday..anyone know if he is injured or just being rested for our game?.
Think if we're level at halftime we could sneak it..

  6. I hope McGeady is rested for the match against us - he's a deadly player and a danger.

  7. McGeady was rested at the weekend so I guess he'll start against us.

  8. Rested or injured? Please be injured. I'm actually terrified of him, McGeady knows our team as well as we do :54:

Lenny may decide to go more defensive, put Ambrose or Mulgrew in midfield for instance and Wilson, Rogne or Lustig at the back. I think we can do something here, we played well against Benfica, and just lacked that bit of cutting edge and flair that Sammy would have provided. Having him back will be a big boost. McGeady will be their biggest threat, so it's lucky we have a manager who watched him come up through the youth academy, played alongside him for 4 years, coached him for a year and a bit and managed him for a few months. I'll say 1-1 for this one.

  10. Huh? Hes played with brown samaras and mulgrew couldnt see him knowing too much about our team but having said that i cant see aiden giving his team tactics for the game the manager will know full well how we play!

    1-1 or 2-1 us.

  12. I think he meant that McGeady is a Celtic supporter who follows the team closely as well as having had direct experience of playing alongside some of its current crop of players.

  13. Does he know our team as well as we think he does though? As mentioned a few posts above, he has only ever played with about three or four of the guys in the current squad. The likes of Wanyama, Hooper, Mulgrew, Kayal, Matthews, Izaguirre, Ledley, Forrest, Ambrose, Rogne and more are all pretty unfamiliar to him.

He will be a threat if he plays, undeniably, but we should just treat him like we would treat any other dangerous, tricky winger and minimise the space he has to work his magic.

  14. He's a fan mate, he's been over at the matches every oppurtunity that he's had and he has said he still follows us whenever a game doesn't clash.

It's not the tactics I'm worried about, if you watch a player regularly, know there strengths and weaknesses and you are a player of Aidens pace and skill then you have a better chance of ripping them apart.

Although Neil knows Aidens game inside out as well.

  15. Again, I'm not talking about having played with them. Having regularly watched Celtic can you tell me Wanyama's, Matthews', Broony's, Izzy's, Wilson's etc strengths and weaknesses on a football pitch?

  16. True. I would like to think that Lennon has a better idea of McGeady's strengths and weaknesses than McGeady has of our starting XI at the moment.

  17. Forster

    Matthews Wilson Mulgrew Izaguirre

    Commons Brown Wanyama Ledley Sammy

    Hooper

  18. I think it will be

    Forster
    Matthews Wilson Mulgrew Izaguirre
    Wanyama
    Brown Kayal
    Commons Samaras
    Hooper

As I remembered Lennon said after the Raith game, he wanted to see how Kayal would come through, which made me think he was looking to play him against Spartak, where as Ledley has only made 2 sub appearances.

    Spartak will probably go

    Dikan
    Kombarov Suchy Insurralde Makeyev
    McGeady Carioca Kallstrom Kombarov
    Ari
    Emenike

Although I see their keeper was subbed at the weekend so, maybe hes injured and Pesjakov will play. Kombarov the right-back I think has been injured too but think he might be fit. Jurado and Romulo I think are missing although Welliton and Dzubya could play up front or Bilyaletdinov out wide, De Zeeuw might play instead of Kallstrom too.

I hope they play Dzubya and Bilyaletdinov as they have no pace and it'll make it easier for Matthews and the centre-backs than it they're playing Emenike/Welliton/Ari or Kombarov.

  19. Alright, I didn't know he was still following Celtic, if I'm being honest. Not through choice, but I didn't know that they televised SPL games in Russia.
