Same mate very surprised if he does that. It would be out of character for a guy like him though so I doubt it will happen. Same as the link with QPR earlier in the summer. Probably (hopefully) come to nothing.

If he goes to Southhampton the world is well and truly broken.

Exactly. A guy who stays with his team for 19 years, through thick and thin, would have more integrity than that, one would think.

Tbh that sounds more promising than anything he could have killed it stone dead by saying no chance but 'don't think' suggests to me still efforts are being made.

I'm holding these straws really tight :smiley-laughing002:

16.48 BST Sam Allardyce on Andy Carroll probably not coming to West Ham: "Our problem is I have since moved on financially. When I first went for Andy Carroll I could afford him, whether I could now is a different matter. At the very best I think one player will be joining us before the deadline tomorrow."

20.14 BST: DONE DEAL Liverpool striker Andy Carroll has joined West Ham on a season-long loan before the transfer deadline, with the Hammers paying a fee to take him for a year with an agreement to complete a permanent transfer next season. Read more

From our perspective it has to be resolved by midnight on Monday though, as that's the Champions League registration deadline. Doubt we'd be bringing him in solely to play in the league.

He has mate. That's demonstrated by his automatically saying no other Italian club was to come in for him as he wouldn't consider it in the slightest. He had already said that a couple of years previously after scoring the winner against Milan (in a season were Juve finished 7th btw) and Berlusconi and that said if he was leaving at the end of the season he would be welcomed in Milan.

Also the fact he's perfectly willing to play for a half decent wage (he had already took quite a severe cut - relatively - to keep playing for Juve an extra year) in order to keep playing as opposed to going to the Far East where he'd command a huge pay day if he wanted to (he's a massive figure over there) speaks volumes to me.

He's a class act all round and one of the coolest guys ever as well :56: :icon_mrgreen:

Sydney FC officials are continuing intense negotiations with Alessandro del Piero, and remain confident their $2 million deal would be enough to entice the Italian superstar to the A-League.

After nearly two hours of video conferences with del Piero's representatives late on Wednesday, Sky Blues officials picked up talks at 6pm (EST) on Thursday.

The hour-long hook-up, which did not involve del Piero personally, focused on how the Juventus and World Cup hero could leave a legacy in Sydney.

There will be a third round of talks on Friday night (EST), when an answer is likely.

As Scottish giants Celtic weighed into the race for del Piero - and put forward a $30,000-a-week deal, plus recent inclusion in the UEFA Champions League as a trump card - Sydney are more than holding their own with a whopping $70,000-a-week deal.

It's the Sun to be fair. But if there's an actual quote then suppose it has to be taken seriously. It could be the estimated £20k wage tbh, it's not agiven that we'd be willing to pay it even though we can afford it :50:

I'm fairly certain that a guy like Alessandro 'Bill Gates couldn't afford my shoelace' Del Piero isn't looking for one last big pay-off; he's looking for one last footballing hurrah.
Look through his career - even briefly - and it becomes clear that he is anything but a 'career' footballer; at heart, he's one of us: a football fan. Judging by his character, it'd seem that a club's prestige, history, culture and community interests him more than its cheque book. Let's hope so, anyway!

If he does go for the big payday, you wouldn`t blame him in the slightest. More than deserves it. I suspect he`ll do this

Not sure about this. A lot of similar quotes and stuff from the previous article on the 29th. I'd heard he'd already stated he didn't want to live in Australia so I don't see him changing his mind about that - IF he did say that.

I don't think anyone would begrudge him a last pay day after taking a wage cut to stay at Juve last season, but it's just not in his character to go chasing the money.

So I continue to clutch at my straw ... :icon_mrgreen:

70k a week in Aussie? Sadly he would have to be mad to turn that down.
