the best thing for the league would be losing the tv deal it would make teams cut their cloth accordingly and it would improve the atmosphere inside the stadiums which would increase the revenue of clubs. Also I think we should move to clubs owning the rights to their own games and being able to sell them off or broadcast them by themselves it would stop all this bickering over the share of money from the tv deal. also our shirt sponsor wouldn't be effected we have one of the highest selling nike kits in the world which speaks for itself and rangers actually hold us back when it comes to sponsor because most international companies don't want to associated with the actions of that mob

When was the last time we were in the champions league?? Yes if we were guaranteed to make the champions league every year then it would make a huge difference and would make up for it no problem. Problem is our board dont budget on us making the champions league as we are a well run club so if the loss of a tv deal, old firm games and maybe a hit on season ticket sales and sponsorship stops us from improving our team in the summer. If that were to happen and we didnt make the champions league because of that what happens next??

Just for those that still are deluded enough to think Scottish football is still going to be broadcast if they go.........i lived in England for 8 years, in Yorkshire, and i can tell you straight, no-one gives a * about Scottish football. If an OF game is on, you may get a few ex-pats watching it in pubs......but if they are not in the pub, no-one even knows it is on.You will have to ask to get it on, because the TV's will be showing racing or Rugby League or something else. They dont care.If it is on, they will watch it and take a side, but they really dont care.........and that is the OF games.Without them, bowls would get a bigger audience in England.

I don't see that as a problem, i see that as a way of business the board have to instruct so they don't end up in the same position as the h*ns, and lets be honest here, if we do well if the group stage and win the SPL your pretty much guaranteed champions league football so * the huns,

its like hanging off the edge of a cliff and having a fat * grabbing yer ankles, get rid of the horrible * and back on your feet

Yes they did cause this, and yes they do deserve punishment......but there is no point in cutting off our nose to spite our face.I want them in the doldrums for decades......as their fans wont disappear,(look at Man City fans) but i do want them to exist.I think those that dont, really dont see the big picture, they are just too intent on revenge or justice or whatever they perceive it as.

How would the loss of £1m guaranteed for Dundee Utd at the start of the season be the best thing for them?? How would it improve the atmosphere inside the stadiums?? I dont understand that argument??

Celtic and Rangers have always wanted to own their own rights and sell them off but the other SPL clubs wont allow them to do that. Its only Celtic and Rangers that tv wants to watch.

Our shirt sponsor would be affected. When we negotiate a deal for our jersey surely the biggest selling point is the fact that the sponsor would be shown at least 4 times a season on worldwide tv. To nearly every country in the world. Thats got to have a massive effect on the price we would command. Beer companies dont like to sponsor 1 half of the old firm because the other half stops drinking that product. That works both ways and thats why its more beneficial for sponsors to back both of us.

Every league in the world has went that way now though. Murray may have started it here but its just the way football has went. Look at the difference in the english prem in the last 15 years or so. Football is a financial game these days. Just look at the stadiums these days compared to 15 years ago. They are all designed with corporate facilities as a must . !5 years ago you were lucky if you had 2 lounges operating in any stadium. Its a changed game these days and you either get on with it or you get left behind.

How will it become a competitive league if Rangers were to leave the league?? it would be over before Christmas every season if it were just us left in it.

yes it would be the best thing for them it would be sink or swim time and we would really see how badly run these clubs are and scottish football needs that it needs a new bill of health because most of the current clubs are running on borrowed time. as for fans most fans don't go because they can go down their local and watch games or sit in there house and watch them on tv or stream them if it was off tv they would need to go back to grounds.

the fact is our shirt is one of nikes biggest sellers you go nearly anywhere in the world and you see a celtic top if that isn't good enough for a sponsor then I don't know what is. also without rangers we could get away form this beer company sponsorship and try and get a global business that has been put of by our association with rangers

    * right I would miss celtic/rangers games..... but with those * going down to the 3rd division would seriously dilute this hatred in Glasgow that no other city in the UK could acknowledge and I think that would be the best thing to happen to even slightly resolve things

Its not a problem. Its great that they run the club in such a respectable way. But what happens if we dont make the champions league?? will fans still be saying "its ok that we cant afford to spend money to try and make the champions league". Will we be happy winning just winning a 1 team league every season??

Not really true though, look at the Serie A or the Budesliga, aye true everythings do to with money but here in Scotland you pay more to see Celtic play Inverness away than you would to see a Milan derby..... need to get our own house in order and by that I mean making a working class sport actually affordable for the working class

I loved every one of them 7 old firm games that season. This season its the only game i got butterflys for. Its the only game i got a genuine buzz for. Take that away and i personally think the domestic season would be a non event as the league would be over before Christmas.

mate we still had 30k + fans going to parkhead while moonbeams murray was running a mock throughout the 90's, every tim knows champions league is pretty much a fairy tale but at least we can say we've won it

Yes it is cheap to watch football in Italy and Germany but they make their money in so many other ways. Yet England is so much dearer than here.

You must give them a product worth paying for though?? Without decent finances you cant attract decent players. Would i pay £10 to watch Inverness play St Johnstone ?? The answer is no. Infact if they were playing outside my window im not even sure i would open the curtains. Maybe a bit harsh but the odd times these games are shown on sky i cant watch any more than 10 mins of it as the standard is so bad.

I know we did because i was one of them. (although the official attendance was between 18,000 and 28,000 cough cough) Champions league nights are the only games which are up there with old firm games. Thats where we should be aiming to be every year , not just being there but competing to get out of the group. To do that though we need to be able to spend money and improve our squad every season. I think thats only acheivable if Rangers are still in the spl due to everything we have discussed. I may well be wrong but thats just my opinion. I dont expect you to agree with me as iv heard your argument but surely you can see where im coming from ??

    I'm not picky.
But if he didn't believe it then he wouldn't have came out and said anything at all plus it wasn't about us JUST surviving. He said that "The way we would look at it is we don't need Rangers. We have a strategy that we have embarked on, that's independent of Rangers or any other club in Scotland."

We do not need them in any way, shape or form.

And just because Dundee Utd, Kilmarnock and Dunfermline have said something it doesn't mean that Lawwell has to come out and say something. The rest of the teams haven't said anything so who cares who says what right now.

I'm on about when they play us at Celtic Park so we DO get money for those two games. The two deals are still in place from ESPN and Sky and they are waiting to be signed off - even Neil Doncaster said that in an interview a couple of weeks ago when he was being interviewed about letting a Newco back into the SPL. So if you think it's bollocks then take it up with Doncaster, but the deals are still in place regardless of us playing that lot or not.

As for your Sky clause, well, THAT'S bollocks because they are not basing the game on JUST 4 out of 38 games a season. Where's this "hefty figure" coming from? The Scottish game gets £65m for 5 years (beginning in 2009) from Sky AND ESPN to show 60 games (30 SPL games apiece). That's only £13m per year from BOTH networks. Not a great amount to lose out on for Celtic in all honesty and I'm very sure that we would make it up.

As for this sponsoring, well we would get that ANYWAY regardless of who we are playing in the match so that's a moot point.

I'm sorry but I completely disagree with your theory on the season ticket allocation diminishing just because we wouldn't be playing them. So all of these 10's of thousand's of season ticket holders are buying their books mainly because of 4 games a season? Rubbish. You say they have been falling for the last few years yet we have been playing Hun FC during all this time so to me that negates your point.

As for your last point, well, your contradicting yourself. You say that we don't need Hun FC to survive but we would be in a better financial situation if they did survive (which is complete rubbish in my opinion), so by your reckoning we DO need them.

I think you need to take your blinkers off.

I agree with this. The paltry figure that we would lose from not playing them would be made up by us getting to the Champions League. *, even if we get into the Europa League would make up for just £2m.

I know it's not a cert that we would get in there every year but we're striving to get there regardless.

We need them as much as we need a hole in the head.

Why do we have people like this on the board honestly.

I think you're being unreasonable in your expectations, which is especially odd given you've detailed in other posts that you're aware that football is run by money and every big league has shot ahead of Scotland due to having more of it. Because of this, regular involvement in the Champions League is not going to happen unless we have a manager that can work miracles like Gordon Strachan did. The kind of money it would take to become a regular group stage team isn't there whether Rangers are in the SPL or not, because of the way the bottom half of the English Premiership and now Championship have dwarfed the wages we can offer players. That change has only come about in the last 5 years. We're now at the stage where even the bottom Premiership club would get more players willing to go than come here. I suggest you get used to the current situation of struggling to compete in the Europa League, it's where the club is at right now, if that's the only place you get a "buzz" from. Some of us get a buzz from just watching eleven men in green and white hoops play regardless.
