this got a bit out of hand. Weasel is hardly the most abrasive english league fan to come on here. Kelvin is going to a better league with teams that are better on average than the spl (with the exception of us.)

Considering tynescastle only holds around 17 400 odd from a quick check for Portman road it holds around 30 thousand! Take out the segregations at the from each corner in the hibs end at tynescastle that's a few hundred seats unnocupied due to the clubs reasons!

Taking into account Scotland is far smaller than England do yous English not realise this no? And in football terms we have less fans because of Scotland's population and more or less the games being in tv and high ticket prices

Anyway don't need to go into anymore conversation withy a person who thinks Ipswich are a big club wows sides are still sore from laughing at that one

Got to to love the inlish eh, same delusions of superiority as the dead hun, England have won * all in almost 50 years, yet every time the major competitions come along like the world cup or the european championships, 'the nation expects' bullshit starts, expects what the usual pumping they have had since 1966 yet they still think their, national team and leagues are the best on the planet.

Notts Forrest, Derby, Ipswich are all bigger than us...........off course they are but only if your English.

Per head of population, more people go to the games in Scotland than England.

Looking at England, the premier league has been getting worse year on year.

The majority of teams are made up of very average players. We've seen the best of teams losing to average and mid table European opposition on a far more regular basis too.

This season's premier league is probably the worst looking collectively that I can remember.

Then looking at the promoted teams like Palace and Hull, they are so far out their depth they will be two of the fastest relegated teams ever.

The Championship is competitive, but it's competitive at the detriment of football. Even watching the highlights on a Saturday night can be a tough watch. It's an awful league.

The gap between the best European teams to English premier teams is getting wider, the gap between the top and bottom of the premier league is getting wider and the championship is falling even faster back.

We all appreciate the Scottish game isn't good enough, but when the English game is in free fall, you'd be better concerning yourself with that.

I just forget how many of the best players in the world have come to Celtic park and left saying they have never experienced anything like it.

You'll never understand playing at the depths of the Championship and getting wrapped up with the opinion that England is as good as you think.

Is this true though? I think people on this forum underrate the english teams just as badly as they underrate us.

Alot of Mid-Table teams have some great players. We'd happily take the likes of Michu, Bony, Pablo, Ramirez, Wanyama, Hooper, Fer, Lovren, Baines, Fellaini, Benteke, Berbatov, Ruiz, Shawcross, Carroll, Nolan, Diame, Yacob, Anelka, Long, Sessegnon, Giacherini, Johnson, Fletcher, Cisse, Ben Arfa, Sissoko, Cabaye, Collocini and alot more to this club.

I think the Premier League has actually increased in quality in the past couple of seasons. All because of money, but I don't think the "bubble is bursting". Maybe there is some average players at most of the clubs, but there is also some very good ones.

The overall strength of the league is good.

I'm not saying it doesn't have good players, just not as many as before.

The Man Utd team that walked the league last year is not a patch of the teams of years before.

The teams have not being performing as well in Europe either.

The gap is increasing between the top clubs and the rest. Many of the rest seem happy just plodding along.

And more people from the Faroe Islands than Scotland. What do they win? * all. Physics and infrastructure get in the way of England equaling Scotland's ratio.

An English team has made a European Final every year since 2005. :smiley-laughing002: So that's clearly a nonsense. I love how one average year in the Champions League and everyone has the Premier League on the decline. An English team will probably make the Final again this year, Chelsea I reckon.

The Premier League is getting better if anything, as Zander said even the midtable sides can bring in top players. I mean you've got midtable Norwich signing Celtic's, FC Twente's & Sporting Lisbon's best players in Hooper, Fer & Van Wolfswinkel. :smiley-laughing002: The strength & depth of the Premier League eclipses any other by quite a margin.

I think the smaller teams certainly have better players than before. Plus Man City and Tottenham are stronger than in the past. Man Utd may not look as strong on paper, but they still have a great team spirit. Chelsea could also come on strong again. I think the league is Underrated within this forum. Without Doubt.

Also, Chelsea won the CL a year ago(Not deservedly, but still), The English teams regularly get to the Quarters and Semi's, just like any other league. Yes, Last year was a failure, but that is one season. As for the Europa League, English teams don't seem to take that very seriously, But again, Chelsea won it.

There are teams who "plod along" in every league, Your Killie's, Villa's, Getafe's, Parma's etc.

Aye, Exactly. I'm no lover of the EPL, I love seeing the English teams fail and it pains me to see that clubs like Southampton and Norwich can gazump us. But it's there to see in plain sight, the premier league is strong.

Cardiff just paid £11 million for Gary Medel from Sevilla ffs :54:. Newly promoted English teams taking players off top half Spanish teams. You never see it the other way about, youd never see a newly promoted Bundesliga club or a Serie A club do it either.

English clubs are bigger than scottish clubs, the quality in the premiership is extremely high, as is the quality in the championship, and it filters down.

You would however have to question how much of this quality is imported and find a correlation between the corporate world taking over football and the increase in quality and then look at how this effects the overall standing in the game. The quality is not home grown.

You could pick any team in any country and argue that they would be the 3rd best team in the SPL. The same way that we could argue that we could be the third biggest team in the championship.

I don't particularly worry about these comments. Forrest are a sleeping giant and i hope they get into the premiership. Our goal is to progress in the champions league. The champions league is the biggest league in the world. It is bigger than the championship and bigger than the premiership.

I don't think the quality of the championship is high at all. I remember Gus Poyet talking about it last year when a reporter was asking him about the quality of the league expecting the usual soundbite that Sky can use ad nauseum, he basically said it was "average but competitive."

The quality of the Premiership may well have declined, but a single season in Europe isn't much to go on. I do get the feeling that the best BPL sides are a decent bit behind the top German/Spanish teams right now. Bring in Mourinho might bridge that gap slightly but losing Ferguson is going to be a big blow.

The middle placed teams that some fans here are praising for opening the cheque book? Meh, they seem to have perfected the art of signing good players and building a team that is less than the sum of its individual parts.

Not praising them, simply acknowledging them for what they are, decent teams with some good players built on SKY riches. Not sub-par teams like some on here wish to believe.

To be fair, Wilson was torn a new one by quite a few SPL players during his time up here.

I know there are not many on this site who share my view, but I only ever rated him as a competant SPL level defender and nothing more.

The timing of his departure was a bit of a pain in the *, but I'm not particularly bothered that he has gone. In fact, I'm delighted that we made a £2.5 million profit on him... money that can be spent elsewhere!

I actually agree with you. I admit that I thought he had a good year last year, not great by any means, but good. You are right though, there was times when he struggled in a Celtic jersey, and made to look very average.
