Commons creates a lot of goals. Last season only Samaras assisted more.

Thanks for reminding me Mystic Penguin. Samaras had the most assists of all Celtic players last season also. Can you still sit there behind your laptop, Rude Bhoy, and continually criticise and downplay Georgios Samaras and all he has contributed and will contribute for years to come?

He was * the other night even though he got the goal. To suggest Samaras is more influential than Commons is laughable

Well done to the big man though. Gets the goals in the big games

Wouldn't read too much into his opinion. This is the same guy that thought what Adriano did was hilariously brilliant

So over rated by people it's unbelievable. He was a * nightmare for most of the game on tuesday. Admittedly nobody played particularly well but other than the goal and one run his touch and passing was *. Set them up with a few chances as well by running in to trouble in our own half.

The guy is so much better than he was two years ago but i still genuinely cannot watch him without being so frustrated by him. Couple of flashes of brilliance and that's about it.

    1. He hasn't scored in 5 consecutive European games
    2. He'll never be a Celtic legend

Fair play to the big fella, he's been playing well for quite a long time now. But give over with the legend stuff. That word is so overused these days it's become meaningless.

Sammy is my favourite player by an absolute mile. I think he could easily end up second top ever European scorer, only another 7 goals...he could do it this season.

You - a guy that thinks Commons is first name on the teamsheet ahead of Forster, Brown, Samaras et al and once claimed that Paddy McCourt is better than James Forrest - calling my opinion ill-informed? No words can describe the level of hilarity.

You can bullshit all you want but you know * well why you "genuinely questioned" about how many of Samaras' 9 European goals were headers simply because you wanted to taint the achievement. A headed winner in our first ever away european win in the Champions League against Spartak Moscow not as silky as Paddy McCourt's last wonder goal around 2 years ago against a bottom 6 SPL side? Even the most blinkered of anti Samaras Celtic fans would congratulate him on what he has achieved in Europe this season, yet you are unable to. Speaking of "the truth", let's compare Commons and Samaras this season:

Commons record thus far in 2012/2013 = 22 appearances and 7 goals. (31%)

Samaras record thus far in 2012/2013 = 14 appearances and 6 goals. (43%)

    Commons 7 goals:

    1) Winner against Aberdeen in 1-0 win on opening day of SPL.
    2) Equaliser in SPL in 1-1 draw against newly promoted Ross County.
    3) Important opener in 2-0 win in away qualifier to Helsingborg in Champions League qualifier.
    4) Opener in 2-1 loss to St Johnstone.
5/6 and 7) Hat-trick in the quarter finals of the CIS Cup in front of 14,000.

Summary: Commons started off the season brilliantly and was clearly our best attacking player. However, since his one and only truly important goal of the season - Champions League is priority without any hun threat domestically - on August 21 (13 weeks ago), Commons has scored just 4 goals - 1 in an SPL loss in Perth and hat-trick in 4th most important tournament for us. Speaking of goals and assists, in the Champions League group stage, Commons has started 3 games and come off the bench in 2 and has contributed with ZERO GOALS and ZERO ASSISTS. In recent weeks he has been sluggish, slow and hasn't produced nearly what he is capable of. Lennon rightfully snubbed him in our 2 crucial away games in Barcelona and Lisbon, while starting Samaras instead. Therefore, Samaras is called upon when it matters and Commons is not. That is an opinion based on evidence and not on petty jibes and a permanent dislike of a player.

    Samaras' 6 goals:

    1) Clincher in impressive 2-0 win in Helsinki in Champions League qualifier.
    2) Clincher, which gave us breathing space for 2nd leg, in impressive 2-0 win in Helsingborg in Champions League qualifier.
    3) Winner in 3-2 win in Moscow; our first ever away win in the UEFA Champions League group stage.
    4) Winner in 1-0 win against Hearts in the SPL.
    5) Opener in 2-1 defeat to Barcelona in the Camp Nou, after an outstanding effort he went off injured at half time and thus our chances went.
    6) Equaliser in 2-1 defeat to Benfica in Lisbon.

Summary: Samaras has continued on from last season - when he had the most assists of all our players - with some very important performances, goals and undoubted committment and hard work, especially in games when he started just days after recovering from illness. His winner in Moscow has lifted the monkey off our back and should turn out to be the pivotal moment in us qualifying for the Last 16 and atleast guaranteeing Europa League football. He has scored in FIVE BACK TO BACK AWAY EUROPEAN GAMES and is now among 11 great Celtic players as having score atleast 9 European goals. Like I said, he's frustrating at times, mercurial always but we should never forget what he has produced for us. Thankfully people like you are now in the minority at Celtic Park, rather than the majority a mere year or 2 ago.

p.s Markybhoy I said 5 consecutive AWAY European games, not European games full stop. I didn't say he was a legend either, I'm simply congratulating him on what he is achieving in Europe. Honestly some of the hostility I receive from moderators and fellow posters alike is unbelievable.

    1) Larsson = 35 European goals
    2) Johnstone = 16 European goals
    3) Sutton = 16 European goals
    4) Lennox = 14 European goals
    5) Chalmers = 13 European goals
    6) Wallace = 13 European goals
    7) Gemmell = 12 European goals
    8) Hood = 12 European goals
    9) Murdoch = 11 European goals
    10) Hughes = 10 European goals
    11) Samaras = 9 European goals

if any of the rest of thoes had played as bad as samaras has they would never have been near celtic 1st team, the amount of times he plays * and still gets picked is baffling

I love the big man for scoring important goals but surely alot of this has been pure luck? I watch him and the amount of times the ball bounce's off him and goes out of play or when a simple 10 yard pass is on passes it straight to the opposition is far too high. Also takes him too long to get going, over 10 yards he is really slow. Hate when he thinks he can go by somebody down the line and gives away a goal kick.

Samaras is probably the Celtic player most well-known outside Scotland and Ireland.

Excluding Watt for his goal against Barca, of course.

I think Forster, Wanyama and Samaras have been our most valuable players in Europe.

Commons has some brilliant moments, but he can also be very slow (the slowest I saw play was when played for Scotland (game in Brussels) though, he was not really good that night). I have nothing against Commons, he is a good player for Celtic, but he is just not in the came class as the three players above.

So your response to facts and statistics that you could not possible claim are untrue is to 1) Randomly pluck out a comment I wrongly made against you about Jock Stein in the heat of the moment, 2) Refuse to answer/justify and then ignore the question about your intentions of asking how many of Samaras' goals were headed and 3) Insult me because you can't accept that I have completely shown you up for a rather strange individual that states falsehoods without using logic, factual information or evidence to back it up. Are my statistics wrong? Surely they must be or else on what basis is it 'random drivel'? How is comparing Commons and Samaras' amount of goals/appearances in all games and then particularly European games drivel? I would welcome you to name one piece of information I typed that is incorrect. As for the crayon remark, that is indicative of the type of poster you are.

So you're saying he shouldn't be picked cos he's had some poor performances?

This is how our results would look in Europe if you take away Samaras' goals:

Celtic 4-1 (agg score) v Helsinki becomes 3-1 (agg score)
Celtic 4-0 (agg score) v Helsingborg becomes 3-0 (agg score)

Fair enough, we'd have went through - how about the group stages:

Spartak (a) becomes 2-2 as opposed to 3-2
    Lose 2-0 to Barca away
    Lose 2-0 Benfica away

    Table looks like this:

    Barcelona 12
    Benfica 7
    Celtic 5
    Spartak 4

Without Sammy's excellent last minute winner then things wouldn't be looking too clever right now...

Without Brown, he is our most experienced Champions League player and anyone with half a brain can see how crucial his contribution has been in Europe

Look at some of these articles:

    http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/hamburg-target-georgios-samaras-as-celtic-1039915

They must all be wrong though, what do they know, eh?! It baffles you he still gets picked when he plays so '*' - well I'm * glad you aren't manager of Celtic then...

Ive loved the guy for ages now, glad he's finally performing consistently and won most people over.
