Agreed. He played a very important part for us tonight - setting up two goals.

First time for a long time sammy but you played well. Could do with more of the same.

Not bad game, shame we have to wait another 1 or 2 for another performance like that.

Should put the memo out he's for sale after that one, maybe some teams might be daft enough to buy him.

Well I remember saying in a Sammy-bashing thread at the start of this season that he was one of the very few players we had who could cause genuine problems for quality continental sides, and he would show his worth in Europe.

Certainly did tonight. Defence, midfield and attack, he made valuable contributions everywhere, and set up two goals into the bargain.

And to anyone who says he is lazy or doesn't try...

Best performance since the January 2011 game against the scum. I thought he was great tonight and I honestly wouldn't mind if Lennon opted to go with him and Stokes again on Sunday.

Hooper being on the bench tonight has done him a world of good. I think he knew that he would have to go out and prove a point coming off the bench and his goal tonight was almost an exact replica of his second goal against the junkies back in February. It was another glimpse of the Hooper we've been dying to see ever since the end of last season.

Great team performance overall. Even Majstorovic had a decent second half :50:

Spot on mate. Headers out his own box were as valuable as the goals he made.

Why would we sell him when he plays well?

The best i've seen Samaras in ages. He still managed to frustrate the * out of me though. From touches of class to looking an * within an instant but fair play to him he made a big contribution tonight. Keep it up big man!

I was never his biggest detractor, always have stuck up for him but I just can't see the performance everyone else did.

Static at their goal, one absolutely shocking pass across midfield that led to a chance and standing still when Stokes played him in with a cute backheel about the 35th minute.

Don't get me wrong he grafted, he caused them problems with the ball at his feet and his back to goal and he won a lot of headers but if that is what he is aspiring to we have problems. Especially if he's only going to do it once a season.

Tonight was his best game in ten months.

Both assists were quality but that second one was especially so.

I'm not getting too excited though as knowing him he'll revert to type shortly.

Glad he saved his one good game a season for the Europa League tie that essentially means nothing.

Still, put himself about and played perfect passes for both goals.

Samaras must be the only player in the world where a good performance equates to 'world class' and a below average performance is viewed as 'disgraceful and the reason we never won'.

He was good tonight. He wasn't brilliant. Credit where it's due, he got his chance and he took it. He put a shift in so good on him for that, more of that please.

Is criticism of him allowed at the moment without it looking like I'm not giving him credit? If so, he still dallies on the ball too much for me. Sometimes it takes him 5 seconds to release a pass when it'd take others 2 seconds.

By all accounts he's had a good game tonight so - well done Sammy.

Let's just hope we don't have to wait 6 months for his next good performance.
