Was anyone on here at this game?

I can't imagine there ever being a better domestic game, to come from behind with 10 men and beat the huns(who were Treble holders and on course for 2 in a row Trebles) must have been absolutley amazing stuff. Especially to get the two goals late on to win the game and League.

We must have milked that day over the huns for years afterwards :notworthy

Its a shame and disgrace that we cant play deciders against them anymore.

I honestly don't think my ticker could take a title winning game against them. Bad enough with the nerves as it is!

Was too young at the time was not even at school so cant even recall the match, although obviously know enough about it now. It would have been a belter. Some goal by MacLeod to seal it too!!
In agreement with you, its sad how this type of fixture is not made possible now due to the efforts of the football authorities to avoid having a title decider derby match.
This game was on a Monday night, can only think it was a decision to help minimise trouble??

Here's a link to someone that was at the game. Question and answer scenario. Gives you an insight into how the season panned out and a feeling of the occasion itself. Good wee read.

    Cheers.

Might have been to minimalise trouble. I think they used to be quite regular. There was one in 1967 when we won it at Ibrox, Jinky scored a double in a 2-2, that one in 1979 obviously, there was one in 1983 I think when Charlie Nicholas scored a double at Ibrox which we came back from behind in again to win 4-2 although Dundee Utd won their game and won the League, Celtic fans had HALF of Ibrox that day and the huns never even filled their half :56: then that one in 1999? they won it at Celtic Park :54: anyone know if theres been any others?

The commentary on that is dubbed on. There was a total media blackout of the game from both TV and radio and those pictures were taken by an amatuer and (I think) are the only known pictures from that night.

Aye, I think there is another video too from a fan at the end of the game that was on Celtic TV before(might be a picture) that shows Tommy Burns standing in the main stand on a wall with his arms in the air at the final whistle.

Yes proud to say I was there and it for me ranks as one of the best derby games ever. That was long before we had all seated stadium of course and the atmosphere was electric from start to finish and long after. I've lost count the number of times I went from the top of the old Jungle all the way down to the front and back up again that night.

At the end they couldn't get away fast enough and by * did we celebrate and let them know it. Other derby wins come close but believe me nothing beats winning the league against them. Those of us old enough and lucky enough to be there will never forget it.

Just wish there was some decent TV footage about. Near impossible to really watch those highlights. Great shame, this is one of the great games in our history. Wish I was around at that time.

cant think of any others at the minute. the one in 83 charlie did score a double. his second one and celtic fourth of the the match was a pen, he was placing the ball on the spot near the end of the match and Dundee utd scored or their game ended no quite sure, but it created a surreal situation where the huns followers (well the ones that could be arsed to even turn up for the match) were cheering at the same time as the celtic support (albeit a bit more subdued than a fourth goal at the * pit would normally be received) as charlie struck it away.

I was there, best feeling as a Tim. The dubious media blackout was highly suspicious. There was nearly a riot in the pub when it was announced the highlights wouldn't be shown. I've often wondered if there would've been a blackout if the mankies had won. Still, fuckem, I was in the jungle that night and I'm happy to admit I shed a tear at the end.:84:

Other than Lisbon, if I could go to any Celtic game from the past then that is the game I would go to. I would love to see a title decider between us and them.

    Yes, I was there.

It's still refered to, to this day, simply as 'The 4-2 game' by every Celtic fan of my generation.

I was 16. I left with about 10 or 12 other guys from my scheme but got seperated from them in the Jungle and I watched the second half in that wee bit of terracing between the Jungle and the Celtic End. I knew we would win. I burst into tears when we made it 1-1 :icon_mrgreen: Don't know why, just the emotion of it all I suppose.

Brilliant performance from Celtic in the second half. I wish I could remember more of the game but if it wasn't for tv, how much would we remember of any of the games we go to. The bedlam at Murdo's goal was indescribable. The scenes along the Gallowgate after the game were amazing. I spotted some of my buddies on the back of a lorry heading into town.

What a night! My da' wasn't at the game and he didn't even know the score when I got home because of the media blackout.

    Changed days indeed.:celt_2:

my dad said he was taking me to it,so i went to school that morning all excited thinking i was going.

Got home from school to be told that my dad had * off with my uncle and had changed his mind about taking me as he thought it would be to dangerous. All i could think was "THE BIG *" took a long time to forgive him.

Found out years later it was all my maw`s fault.so in short i never saw it but a * well should`ve.

l was there, the good old days when if you wanted a ticket for the huns game you got one. Think the media blackout was known in advance before the game. After the celabrations by the time we walked back into the town there was'nt a hun in sight. :56:

If l remember right their final game where they "could" have won the league was at the bigotdrome against Partick Thistle and they ended up getting a crowd of 2000 at it.

Bang on .It was the Johnny Doyle game [documented for his sending off] and it was a Monday night ,I was'nt allowed to go to the huns matches because I was too young ,I was about 15 then and can mind my Dad and Brother coming in from the game ,Party time ,There was a blackout of this game for whatever reason I don't know ,Maybe it was recorded but only shown if the huns won it.
