Only, we don't need speed. We need height.

Fast striker could come in handy. Always good to get players in to freshen up the squad. Might give Hooper and Stokes a wee boot up the * (not that they've been playing bad).

Nice post liam and i agree, the huns cant afford to bring any * in and we are sitting on our arses as per usual * around with loanee,s !!!

I have pointed out on numerous threads about the est 5 million we made from the europa, there is also the hoovheid money which was est to be over the 1 million pound mark???

Why are we not going out and spending half of that on a target man or a goal scorer to help us in our quest for this title which we need badly !!!

Its the sheer neglegence of mr lawell once again at this time of year, if we dont get a goal scorer in we may not win the title, bangura and samaras dont know were the net is and when stokes or hooper get injured WE WILL NEED A DECENT REPLACEMENT.

No not at all. Our current first team have been good so far. But the league isn't won yet - it isn't like we are ten points clear - and the Huns won't give it up without a fight. The team should have been good enough in 2009, 2010 and 2011 to win the league, but did we win it?

I'm not saying we need to spend fortunes, but it has been obvious the sort of players we needed to sign, everyone on here can see it, the board can see it, Lennon can see it, but who do we end up with? The same type of striker we already have. We shouldn't have signed Bangura because we didn't need his type of player, same here. We shouldn't be looking for loan signings because it leaves us in the same position next summer.

We had the chance to sign the proven goalscorer we wanted/needed at half of what he cost six months ago, did we sign him?

My mind just keeps going back to Steven Fletcher. That mistake has cost us for four years. The Huns were on the brink of extinction and that would have been the nail in the coffin. We would possibly be on for seven in a row this year.

We need a bit of investment to take us to that next level. Don't try to make me out like I'm saying we should be throwing money down the pan like the Huns used to, because I'm not. We sold Hooiveld, we got into the EL proper - where is the money from that? We are in a good financial position, as everyone keeps saying, and that's great, but we need to do the business on the pitch, not just the balance sheet.

January is the wrong time to be spending money though, players are way over priced. This is the stongest our team has been in january in many a year too,i think their reasoning in this signing is a replacement for Hooper or Stokes if they get injured. In saying that i was well disapointed in us not going for Baba, especially at 2.5 mil.

Yes. Our current forward line is rather fast. I want a new JVoH.

But then even for a target man you don't need height.

Best target man in modern British football was Kenny Dalglish - measuring all of five foot eight.

A 1st-rate target man needs to have great balance, to be strong, good at shielding the ball and holding it up, lightning on the turn, good awareness of when to release the pass to supporting players.

Personally I don't want a big lamppost up front. At times this season we've played some of the most pleasing football I've seen since I got my first season book 10 years ago. Last thing we want is to start lumping it forward to some big guy, and missing out the midfield, which is far & away our strongest area.

This is true but we didn't spend any money in the summer, again. Our net spend the last three or four years is zero. We have money, it is a complete myth that we don't. We can afford to speculate £3-5 million in the hope that it will get us into the Champions League. Our team is strong, yes, but the Huns will fight to the last breath, which we couldn't do last year. I think we will win the league this year, but what happens if Hooper breaks his leg today? We've got an unknown guy with a questionable record coming in who needs to hit the ground running. Bangura is never off the treatment table, and hasn't scored a single goal for us yet anyway, Sammy isn't exactly prolific. That leaves Stokes and this guy, is that a gamble you want to take?

Too true, football should be played on the deck, not in the air. Barca's average height mid to front must be about 5'9" and they are big enough.

I agree, we want to play football the right way, but at the same time in the games where that isn't working/isn't possible (the likes of Inverness away, Motherwell away etc) we need to have a plan B. We aren't as good as the likes of Barcelona who can just expect plan A to work every time. Even for them that isn't working this season.

That is why I think we should be signing someone a bit different to what we already have. Stokes and Hooper are our number one partnership and it seems we are just trying to sign worse versions of the same player to use as back up. We should have at least three stikers who are genuinely competing for the starting two places week in, week out, and who between them offer us the full attacking package.

Having a bigger guy doesn't mean playing route one football, but it means we can break quick, get a cross in and score with a header. It means we can become more of a threat at set pieces. It means we can cope with * pitches better. And finally it means that if, with two minutes still to go, we can get the ball up the field quickly and get the goal that might prove the difference between winning the league and being losers again.

i'd be quiet happy witht his signing, he'd put pressure on Hooper & stokes up front and would mean we'd have 3 goal scoring strikers with Samaras and Bangura to cover there also.

getting him on 6 month loan deal is a smart move, if he proves his worth sign him in summer after we've won the league. looked good on youtube, clinical finishing.
