Messi is not the greatest

Dude it's a team game. It wasn't Zico vs Maradonna.

 

Messi has won more at international level than 99% of players will.

 

I know, just comparing the two though plus they were the best in their teams. Although nowadays its not Ronaldo V Messi, its still looked upon as that and Messi is regarded as better because he is and his team usually wins and he usually plays better.

But in the case of Zico and Maradona, Zico was the one who usually scored, the one who usually won and the one who usually played better and was arguably classed as better. But then Maradona won the World Cup. Likewise you could also say Platini out performed Maradona season in season out but Platini never won the World Cup either.

As great as Maradona was and its undoubted, the fact he won the World Cup is what has elevated him above players like Zico and Platini when otherwise he probably wouldnt have, but winning the World Cup is to his credit as its not easy to do and he got relatively lesser teams to two finals.


Would be interesting to see what would happen if Ronaldo won the next World Cup in a Maradona like way if he would then be classed higher than Messi, I doubt he would but it worked for Maradona.

Why do people always judge individual players on how many World Cups they've won? A World Cup is a team effort, even if Messi played the greatest he's ever played, if his teammates don't play well, they'll lose.

Why the ? Imo Argentina have a good squad, but lack a good few players to be a great squad and I doubt they will win a world cup in the next 10-12 years that Messi will still be playing in.
