That's one thing I love about taking part in and watching mass distance races. You get so many people that clearly aren't natural runners but still force themselves to the finish for the joy and achievement at the end. Find it quite inspiring in all honesty.

The training is really tough at times, but being part of it all on race day and crossing the finish line is a buzz and a feeling that I can't quite explain.

Lost nearly 2 stone in about 3 months. Pretty pleased, not noticed massive changes, but it's nice to no longer be technically obese though. Picked up a bit of cycling a day too now, about half hour a day. I fast two times a week, sometimes once. Other than that I've just cut down my food, and eat better. Cut out chips/pizza/sweets/junk food, and basically just eat once or twice a day, butties, pasta, noodles, fish etc.

    From 244lbs, to 215.4lbs

    Absolutely superb mate, great effort.

12 weeks until tough mudder so the cardio has started, getting in the hills and stairs, not the best runner, in fact not a runner at all, but think If I build up to 8 miles, I should be O.K., just need to dial the weights back a bit, naw happy at that, but needs must.

Incidently, not been getting to the gym as much lately and feel frigging amazing haha too many * pull ups :D

Does anyone here have any tips for lowering blood pressure? I have genetically borderline high blood pressure. Normally its 134/85.

    I am thin, 5 foot 9 and 10 stone 7.

I am exercising on a bike 20 minutes every day. I am avoiding sodium. I am taking fish oil and CO-Q10.

I have to take a physical test with a doctor. My BP needs to be under 140/90. To make matters worse, I have white coat hypertension. Basically, whenever I am around doctors, my BP shoots up, sometimes as high as 150/90.

    Any tips?

What was your time then mate?

4hrs 58mins I did, happy with that considering the sweltering conditions, jeezus that was tough! I have blisters all over my feet and am sunburnt too *!

Time would have been faster, but the girl we were running with had a wee struggle with exhaustion and a stitch at about 18-19 miles, so we had to wait on her for a bit, was a shame but didn't want to leave a fallen soldier behind!

Over the moon to have done it though, looking forward to the Glasgow Half in October now, that will seem like a piece of *! :50:

Well done mate, getting in under 5 hours must've felt good.

Aye it got pretty hot from 12 onwards, not what you want when you're already dehydrated. 13.1 miles will feel dead easy for you now, not only physically but mentally too.

Managed it in 3 hours 39. Bit annoyed that I couldn't cut out the 9 minutes and squeak under 3 and a half. Hit a bit of a wall at 20 miles and my pace fell from consistent and comfortable 7 and a half minute miles to over 9 minutes. But considering I've hardly run in a month I'm fairly pleased. Hope to smash it next year though :50:

The heat was unbearable at times, particularly along portobello beach, made it really tough going, I've never done a distance run in that kind of heat! Yeah well I've done Glasgow half 3 times, did 1hr 59 last year, about 9mins 10secs a mile, so hoping to knock another ten minutes off it this year. Gonna rest for a few days then start training again on Friday. :50:

That is a brilliant time mate in those conditions, you'll be one of the * that ran past me on the way back on the Berwick road then? :bbpd: Haha. I'll be honest, I found that part of the course really tough, it's bad enough that it's nothing but trees for like 5 miles, no crowd and no wind to catch your breath, but to see runners running back in the other direction is pretty soul-destroying! :54:

I think once you turn at the top of that road you start to smell the finish though and it's downhill all the way, some feeling when you get back in the city and see the crowds again. :50:

Will I do it again ..?? * no!!

    Aye .. probably. :icon_mrgreen:

Aye that wee stretch after the power station is pretty boring, not what you want at the tail end of the race. Don't know if you saw any of the leaders going the other way? I saw them go past and * me they were going quickly.

You'll probably take a few minutes off your half time at least, your legs will still have most of the marathon endurance in them by that time if you keep running. I think I'll just stick to the 10k though :56:

Yeah the guy that won went right past us, he had about 3 miles to go and I still had 11 or 12. We all clapped and gasped as he went past, the speed he was going at was beyond ridiculous, just incredible the speed these guys run at.

Yep, we are gonna carry on training, trying to get my miles down to 8.5 minutes, think that's more than achievable. :50:

I usually concentrate on doing the machines specific to a group of muscles each day (different muscle each day).

I need a proper plan, though. At the moment I am only well toned - I want to get big.

Well doing weights won't get you bigger alone, you need to be eating about 800 calories above maintenance every day.

Have a look on bodybuilding.com its a great website for anyone from beginner to expert.

I myself will be doing a 6-month bulk from being a skinny * to stronger but still normal kind of weight. Personally will be doing a mixture of clean and dirty bulk.
