:56:. for someone who has preached in other threads to be 'above all this nonsense' and to give the impression your 'not that bothered', you don't half spend some amount of time in the threads highlighting the same points over and over again.

and the best part is, you have said how much you 'love' irish rebel songs and yet go on to describe them as 'glorifying terrorism'. you sound like a very confused individual.

As someone said previously in the thread, Lawwell would take the tri-color down tomorrow if he could. They want the brand to be as appealing and bland as possible so that they can make money off as many people as possible, Asia, America, Australasia and Europe, here we come.

Lawwell must think we are all cattle that he can move into position. Get us jumping around to inoffensive JCGE and let the world watch how happy we are doing the huddle, it must sell.

I agree it is a very tough (if not impossible) line to draw as to what is acceptable and what isnt. To me what it comes down to it what the vast majority of football fans find offensive or contentious. For obvious reasons, rightly or wrongly the word IRA offends people as does any song with that word in it. Singing about the English being monsters at a game of football with nothing to do with England is bound to cause offence to some people.

Getting the topic back on track, this is what Lennon and Lawwell recognises. Their political opinion is irrelevant (and is mine and yours). The rules are in place from UEFA and now the SPL not to get Celtic, but to try and avoid the contension we spend days discussing.

I do not see how people singing these songs will ever win this battle. I believe Lennon see this and that is why he doesnt want celtic to be further punished.

We'll agree to disagree mate, I don't think it's the words IRA that offends them in this country.

I think the plain ol' 'I' word does it on it's own.

The tri-colour is a big selling point for celtic. One of the major reasons we are marketable in America, Australia, and Europe is the Irish diaspora. He doesnt want to hear IRA songs as they will end up hurting the club. Leaving aside all political opinion, Im sure he is very keen to keep the Irish connection if not for anything else other than it is a massive selling point of Celtic. Criticising songs about the IRA does not equate to wanting to do away with Irish culture.

It will happen. Celtic's working class political support is being "weeded out" and those things will be left with no one who cares enough to protect them. The lifeblood of the support is being crushed by expensive prices and right wing media propaganda. They won't be happy until we are a "typical" Scottish club with fans who are just there to sit on their hands and grumble about the "shameful" history of Celtic. Of times gone by when "plastic Paddys" would sing "rebel" songs and "neds" made silly banners from bedsheets. I * dread the day I go to Paradise and I sit down to a stadium full of Tory voting Daily Mail reading Middle Class "fans" who are very pleased with themselves that they don't have to listen to those daft Irish songs, after all we are a British club:rolleyes:

What they fail to see is it was the Irish Connection that has made Celtic the world wide brand it is today. No offense to any Scots but if you think it isnt and its down to football your off your head.

Lawwell and the board have seen the markets in asia etc and thinks he can sub the Irish with Asians and yanks, we will see how that works out.

OR I could be miles off the mark.

The people who held up a banner to express there opinion or the people who sing songs about Irish heroes?
