People on here never fail to amaze me with the short memories . Charlie Mulgrew can and will be a big player for us when he is back fit .

I don't like him playing in midfield in the domestic competitions. Doesn't add much to the game for me. In Europe it suits him more. I'd still rather he was centre half though. Don't know why he's just never played there at all now.

Talking about Shot Memory you seem to forget that he has only had 1 and a Half good years with us, otherwise he is been either mediocre or *, his first season he was a complete disaster until the new years old Firm game, then he was great as a CB the next season, since then he has been a good SPL player and nothing more.

I must say i thought he was brilliant a couple of years back in the CL. And he does it for the national team - Germany game he was very good alongside Brown.

    Talk about short memories son.

Definitely short memory then, 'great as a CB' - he spent most of that season as a left back.

He's a really important squad player. May not have the talent of some of the others, but I think many on here undervalue his contribution.

He's one of those players who knows the standard, and has been around the block as a Celtic player.

It's a shame he's out of Sundays game, he is one of a few players who is great to have in the team for games like this.

He is a far better centre back than left back for me. If it wasn't for him going into centre half, and gaining confidence, I think he might have been gone by now. He was a poor signing up until being slotted in at centre half in my opinion. Said it at the start of the season, for me, he is a far better option than Ambrose.

It wasn't the centre back move that improved him and made him an important player - it was the 2-0 Sammy game at Ibrox where he was outstanding at left midfield.

So you don't think he improved when he went in at centre half? Couldn't disagree more to be honest.

Think that was when he became a major part of the squad. He was better his player of the year season but like I said he wasn't only at centre back that night.

Two best performances I've saw from him was Barcelona last year where he held the midfield practically himself after Browns sending off, that was at centre midfield and when we won 6-0 at Rugby Park to win the league when he was left wing back.

Of course he was better in his POTY season,I think it stands to reason why he won the award that year. The point I made, which I stand by, if it wasn't for him being played at centre half, and really finding confidence, I think he might well have been shipped out by now, because he was considered a very poor signing by a lot of fans a few month after we brought him back. Myself included in that. It was only when he went in at centre half, that we noticed how good he could be for us.

Except he was good no matter where he played in the last 6 months of his first season, after the Sammy game at Ibrox where he played left midfield, that was the turning point, not a game playing at centre half. He only moved into centre half the following season, his POTY season.

He didn't even nail down a first team place immediately after the game at Ibrox. He only really nailed down a place near the end of January that year, when he played at centre half, and continued to do so for the majority of the second half of the season. Go and check it up if you want mate.

Was he not spotted around the team after the game at Ibrox? If not fair enough mate. I still think it was the game at Ibrox that turned his Celtic career around, he was so far out of the picture before that it was unreal, absolute desperation putting him in at left midfield due to injuries. He put himself back in the picture after that.

Nah, he was in and out the team in the games after Ibrox, then he nailed down a place at centre half near the end of that month, and then remained in that position until the end of the season.

    Fair enough mate :50:

I thought he was more in and out but I might be getting different parts of the season mixed up, can just remember being furious we never played him left mid at Caley Thistle and used Maloney instead with Ledley out

He has played excellently for us in central midfield , as he does regularly for scotland , with scott brown to boot. To say he isn't an option and just a squad player is very unfair on him . I would have him ahead of Biton every day .

Bitton's won his place for now but both at the there best I much prefer Mulgrew. He was out of form start of the season though.

He would have been better playing at left mid that night, because he scored an O.G from centre half :smiley-laughing002:
