Don't get me wrong mate. I don't compare McCourt to Dzeko. I was just saying McCourt is no super sub (sorry for using the word again :icon_mrgreen:) unlike Dzeko, who can turn a game around.

I agree with the idea of 20 players battling for a place in the starting XI. However it remains wishful thinking, since there's about 13/14 players that are starting XI material. Other than that you'll get to see a drop in quality in my opinion.

The thing is, Lennon doesn't like to rotate our squad. You could argue it's because he doesn't trust his other players, but I think it's just not his style. Unless injuries appear.

If we had 20 starting XI players there would be a lot of grief and unrest among the team, since some players that ain't starting would get mad easily.

There will always be some bench players - who are comfortable coming off the bench, cost less than others, don't whine about limited game time. I think McCourt is one of them.

Also I don't think McCourt takes young talents space on the bench. There's several places on the bench and if they are better than McCourt they'll simply get more time on the pitch.

Unfortunately that applies to most Celtic players coming off the bench. Especially if only given 5-15 mins.

I agree with you, McCourt hasn't done anything extraordinary in a while. For some reason I think he wants to prove everyone wrong too much and fails. He puts too much pressure on himself. If he concentrated on the basic things: passing, shooting, running.. he could be a good and effective (bench) player, even without scoring wonder goals. Still think his passing and vision could be second to none. Could be, because certainly at the moment it's not.

To cut a long story short: I think our opinions differ on the definition of a bench player. You want to see 18 players pushing for a first team spot. With everyone fit only 15 will be given games regularly.

I stand by my point: McCourt is a typical bench player. Cheap, comfortable and capable of great things. Extremely inconsistent though.

Paddy is never going to be a first team regular and how long has he been here now ?! I like paddy but think it would be best for both parties for him to move on. Personally, I would rather see some of the younger players getting a look in, they are our future !!

    Move on Paddy.

Why are you wasting your career on the Celtic bench?

Needs to playing football regularly and using that * give talent.

If he's happy coming off the bench then so be it - keep him. Perhaps we should be looking to players that'd be in contention to start or young players for the future coming off the bench but he cost buttons and we know he's capable of changing games.

Sadly he hasn't had the time on the pitch recently but given our poor league form I'd like to see Lennon having the balls to drop a few of the big-earning-but-underperforming players, starting with Hooper on Wednesday.

Going well off-topic here but it needs to be said. Although we've dropped a lot of points we've hardly defended terribly - games in Europe show this and we've mainly been hit on the counter attack in the league. Our problem is creating and converting chances up front - posession is all well and good but means nothing if we don't take our chances. Maybe a few changes in the next few games would help this by injecting the team with a few hungry players giving them their chance to shine (fortunately most of our squad players are attack minded such as McCourt, Miku, McGeouch, Lassad) and giving our first-team regulars a kick up the backside. We say McCourt is a backup or impact player but that shouldn't imply that key/regular players who're playing * should be guaranteed a game anyway - squad players shouldn't just be used for injuries and should be given their chance to step up as often as possible to keep the squad as a whole motivated. Doing this will kick regulars up the * and show the lesser used players they've got a serious chance.

After Killie game I wanted him punted.

But when he came on against Caley Thistle he looked more likely to score than anyone else, and worked his * off as if he was trying to prove something, I respect that and think we should let him stay a bit longer to prove he still has it in the tank.

    Paddy`s fringe

I`ve looked at all the players pictures on the Celtic web site and Paddy
is the only one with a fringe. Could we all chip in for a haircut and maybe
he`ll be what he should be? Hope he plays in the cup?

    :shamrock: CELTIC 125 :shamrock:

  11. Get him some brylcreem. Make him look like a gangster.

Make Neil an offer he can't refuse. He either plays McCourt, or else!

  12. Is it not just cause he is a 'fringe' player?

    Hahaha. Good point!

Would laugh like mad if he did a McGinn and ended up at Aberdeen, banging goals in left, right and centre.
