Larsson scored 16 goals in his first season at Celtic, exactly half of Marco Negri who played for 6 months. Getting miles off topic but he wasn't the sole reason.

Breaking the old guard and introducing a fresh approach was a greater factor

I'm not a Lenny or a McStay supporter, I support Celtic. I actually think Lambert was better than them both but then again that's miles off topic.

McStay was absolutely incredible for Scotland in an attacking role in the Euros in 1992.

I agree with what I think you are trying to say, ie, not enough emphasis on continuity of training, one club mentality. If we had one sytem and one style of football running through the club, with an emphasis on youth, we'd be more successful. I agree with you.

But just as a point, and sorry if this is off topic, the reason Barca have such a productive youth system is precisely because their 12 year olds DON't train like the first team, nor are they treated as such. They play on smaller pitches, with smaller goals, thus encouraging better technique, spacial awareness, movement and use of the ball. There is NO emphasis on results until u-16, therefore players are allowed to develop technically. Coaches aren't pressured into playing a physically superior, but technically inferior side at u-14 level because they don't have to defend their results to their employer, they can focus purely on developing technique. Honestly, players like Xavi, Iniesta, Pedro, Bojan and, of course, Messi, would have struggled to get through UK Youth systems because at 13 years old bigger, quicker lads would have played ahead of them. Ridiculous.

Things are changing for the better over here. Arsenal embraced the Barca/ Ajax philosophy and, despite the state of their current first team, nobody can knock their production of technically excellent youngsters. If Celtic were to FULLY embrace this mentality, we would reap the rewards in years to come.

Again, sorry if that's off topic, but this thread has become a real consideration of the club's direction and you brought the topic up by referencing Barca, so I thought I'd throw it in the mix!

Fair points mate. The point I was trying to make with the Barca youths is that they're all steeped in the same philosophy. Something that is lacking at probably 95% of clubs in Europe if not more.

The emphasis on physicality in this country is crippling the game. Emile Heskey would've been rated higher than a Javier Hernandez at youth level in Britain.

I agree with you when you say that if we fully embraced the mentality the rewards in the future would be brilliant. Unfortunately I don't ever see us going down that road and it pains me because winning isn't enough for me. Would hate to win every game playing boring football, scoring an ugly goal and then packing the midfield and defence.

Back on topic though, I'm still behind Lenny but he's running out of time for me. It's decisions like playing Charlie Mulgrew at left wing when he's established himself as our main centre half, those kind of decisions are baffling, infuriating and costing him his job if they don't stop.

I tend to ignore the doubters at the moment. It's too early to be calling for his head. Once we win a few games people will stop moaning :50:

How can you agree with that? I'm curious.
Supporting Celtic is all about winning games like home to St J in our sleep. Using words to a song to cover up that embarrassment is laughable.

I'm agreeing with the statement because there are too many people on this forum calling for lennons head after we lose. We have lost 2 games this season. The league isn't over. If we were losing games non stop then maybe a change would be needed. Everyone should calm down the exact same thong happened last season when we went through a wee rough patch over winter and we kept drawing. People need to calm it and get behind the team and the manager!

I see what you're saying, but the "* buys" bit is absurd. Hooper, Kayal, Stokes, Ledley, Izaguirre, Matthews, Commons. All of these guys have turned out to be brilliant pieces of business. Yes, Commons is off form right now and no one's really sure what's happening with him, but he already has two Old Firm goals to his name and has only been here since January.

I often wonder if Lenny is the right man for the job and think no at times. Then, i think back to the Mowbary era, getting destroyed away from home against St.Mirren, continually dropping points at home. So at times i count ourselves lucky as things could be much much worse. Neil Lennon IS the right man for the job in my opinion. :shamrock:

Nothing * about it,the players you mention are fine,Matthews is young and as long as the blue eyes boys keep fit he will be a bit part player and in my opinion is one for the future.Wanyama ! why did we buy him?
Wilson another guy prone to errors and fits right into the abyss of * we have at the back,Maj * ,forster is a duffer

    this concerns me
