By your standards we should stop singing every song that mentions Ireland.

I really fear for the future of this club.

Not all all. Don't be so silly, I love singing Irish songs!

I just have no real passion for the IRA.

Sounds like you would want rid of The Fields, Let The People Sing etc.

No, I would hate to see those songs disappear.

You've got me all wrong bud, it's just the direct references to the IRA that I'm not too keen on.

I used to bang the Rebs out loud & proud but I no longer feel any need, too much * going on it the world today to hold on to any form of past bitterness.

The Flower Of Scotland and The French national anthem could be seen as past bitterness should they be stopped?

what has singing IRA songs got to do with having to put up with more * in Scotland? Are you basically saying all the singing of those songs is venting to get back at those who are giving you *? Not a very sound basis IMO although I think what you seem to be saying is pretty well the truth about why a lot of fans sing them. I think there is clearly a big kick for a lot of people in singing them to people they know dont share their views, especially at away games.

You're right about certain songs stoking up hatred - for example when I hear the hun hordes rejoicing in the death of Bobby Sands MP during the derby games then that makes me angry however that hatred will always remain (on both sides) whether we sing the songs or not.

Hearing them sing such songs just makes me want to sing our songs louder, and certainly would never make me go out after a game and start being violent. The loonies that commit such acts of violence would do so regardless of the song issue.

Celtic Park is obviously going to be best representative of the Celtic following.

Do you sing songs like “Fields of Anthenry” with insincerity then?

Have you no concern, despite the founder of Celtic football club being Irish (and Ireland playing the most prominent role in the club ever since), for the oppression perpetrated by the British against Irish civilians throughout history?

Why do you bear the shamrock (a nationalistic Irish symbol) on your chest?

The away fans are the hardcore of our support.

Hardly anyone sings at Celtic Park in my opinion.

I have no problem singing irish songs. In fact, some of them are my favourites.Songs to do with some peoples political agenda have no place at a sporting event. Whether the songs are about the IRA, or the UDA, or the British army or Task Force 141 from MW2.

The poll is far too binary-some songs are a part of Celtic's history and culture and should stay, others are a part of Celtic's culture but really shouldn't be sung anymore ("Up the Ra' ought to be dropped from the Celtic Symphony), and some rebel songs were never sung at Celtic Park.

"What these players have to realise, is that when you put on the Celtic jersey you're not playing for a football team, you're playing for a community and a cause"
    Tommy Burns

celtic is more than just a football club. ireland, irish history, and irish republicanism has made the club what it is, and we will always remember this.

The fanatics aren’t going to be representative of the general support though. It’s like saying suicide bombers are Islam (for want of a better analogy).
