    Celtic's transfer dealings thus far.

    Acceptable or not?

I think we've made a * * of things. Whilst Wilson, Wanyama and Matthews all look able to contribute now or in the near future, I am extremely disappointed that we have failed to clear the unwanted wage-thieves off our books. More worryingly, our inability to address glaring deficiencies in our team (GK and ST) is something you would expect of an * outfit. The GK situation in particular was one that should never have been allowed to develop. As Forster was only in on loan, surely we shouldn have been preparing for the likelihood that Newcastle would not sell to us?

The resulting spate of trialists and having to start the season with Zaluska, who I wouldn't trust as custodian of the tuck shop float, in nets, is the footballing equivalent of looking down the back of the sofa for cash before a night out.

I know there is time left yet, but these issues should have been resolved a long time ago. Totally underwhelmed thus far.

"An * of things" is spot on. We have brought in two championship players and paid £1m for a guy who played in Belgium and, on Weds friendly basis, looks nothing special. Once again we had a chance to build on a good side and our board are insistent on taking the cheap option instead of spending the money required. We know finances are tight but, we have spent £1m this summer.

The orcs, who we are constantly criticising for being skint have spent £1.5m on Wallace, brought in a 6.4 defender for @ £500k and are actively seeking another couple of players. Whereas we wouldnt spend the £2.5m or so required to sort out the keeper position.

3 seasons without the title and we screw around with taking nobodys on trial all the while the SPL games loom ahead of us. And Europe.

Unless Neil and the board invest in bringing in a good keeper and another decent striker then its going to be tough. We didnt win the league with this squad last season remember and it was acknowledged that we needed to bring in a couple of players. I think we are still short.

I don't think you are far off the mark.

    Not entirely impressive.

We lost the league by 1 point, our team is brilliant, we need a new keeper and maybe another striker, that's it.

I don't know why people are complaining, we haven't had as long to look for new players with the season starting early and we dont need that many players. If we go on a signing spree every window then we will never have a set team.

No-one is suggesting going on a signing spree. Two players required, a keeper and a goalkeeper. How is that a signing spree. Its been acknowledged thats the minimum this squad needs. And the side may be brilliant, but we still didnt win the SPL, and the Orcs have been signing yet again, despite not having any money, while we are the ones trying out hopless trialists.

And we may have time, but we got an upper hand last week by gaining 2pts on the league. But we beat a poor Hibs side and they dropped thier points against a decent Hearts side, who will still have to play.

I have to say that in the friendlies and even in the game against Hibs last week, our side doesnt look as settled as it did in the second half of last season. Not sure why this is. Maybe its because of the keeper situation or maybe its because Lennon has shuffled the team about too much.

Hopefully we will see some action on the signing front this coming week.

Im disapointed we havent * rid of the dead wood ie murphy and loovens ( lennon clearly rates him ) but the fact we still havent got a goalie or a quality striker in by now is abit of a farce.
Im happy with matthews, victor, and wilson of course.

they should all be away and a couple more to make room for a target man, experinced CB and a good goalkeeper

Sorry mate, our team isn't brilliant. Our goalie is at best a no.2, our defence is still not good enough, and Hooper and Stokes (both brilliant on their day) have as many poor games as good games.

We NEED a first choice goalie, another centre half and a striker IMO, because with this squad, we wont go far in Europe:38:

Meh. Like someone else said, our team is good enough. We have formed a strong side over the last year, and I would be disappointed if we don't win the league this season. Signing Wanyama and Matthews was great business IMO, as both of them look like gems. And I wouldn't even say a striker is a top priority. Of course it's nice to have more strength in depth but I don't see why people want to break up the Stokes and Hooper partnership. Who do you want to drop for this new striker?

Also, people complaining about not getting rid of deadwood; it's not Celtic's fault if nobody else will take them.

Anyway, I think Lennon's being quite cautious this window after last year. Rangers are doing this year what we were doing last year. We were very public with our dealings last year and got turned down on several occasions. Jimmy Bullard, Sol Campbell & David James stands out, not sure if there were more. He's playing a safe game with trialists. He wants to make sure they're a good standard, and see them first hand before making any type of deal. The only problem with that, is the question of whether players good enough for Celtic should be having a trial in the first place. And with these trialists, Lennon is pursuing the positions you highlighted. If I'm not mistaken, the only positions Lenny has took on trialists for, is striker and goalkeeper. Obviously it'd be nice if we could spend more money, but I think a little patience is needed, Lenny knows what he's doing.

I think Lennon has been told to shift a few to make money free for other players

I think that as usual there will be a flurry of activity towards the end of the window. That's when we'll start shifting out players with quiet loan moves and cut price transfers.

As much as we all want a few players away, they have contracts and if nobody wants them there is not a lot we can do.
All we can hope for is if somebody does come in for a player, we make ourselves easy to deal with and dont ask for too much cash.

We should have def done what the Huns have been doing with regards to buying a solid defender from a country like Romania.instead of hoping that we find another gem.we also have had a full year to find a keeper,in saying that I trust Lenny to get it right as long as there is no interfering from our penny pinching board

Spot on mate, feel exactly the same.

There's weeks left and it's time they get the finger out. I know we have restrictions but we're constantly looking for the cheap option and taking people on trial. I'm not against trials but bringing a goal-keeper in that has already proved himself that we desperately need, is the least we deserve.

Not at all happy, yet. We can't afford to gamble with the goal-keeper situation.

There's hardly been anything to cream ourselves about, but who ACTUALLY thought it would be any different?

Our dealings so far have not been impressive, but it doesn't detract from the fact that our squad is still good enough and big enough to win the league title this season. After all, it's the same squad we had last season and we only lost the title because Samaras made an * of the penalty and then we had an off day at Inverness (which wouldn't have mattered, had Samaras scored the fecking penalty). We still managed to accumulate 92 points though, no mean feat. The only reason we need to expand on it this year is because we want to get ourselves firmly back into the European scene and rightly so.

I still reckon we'll sign another 2-3 players up before the end of August. A striker and a goalkeeper is absolutely essential, as well as another experienced centre back to play alongside Kelvin Wilson.

The bottom line is, we're good enough right now to win the domestic Treble, but we don't have a lot left after that for European competition. That's why we need to strengthen.
