Gorgios Samaras! Should he stay or go?

Discussion in 'Celtic Chat' started by Green Villan, Jul 27, 2011.

  1. What do you think.Samaras is a decent player but,and I hate to remind you,he cost you the SPL to the Huns last season with his poor penalty.
Have you got fed up or is he a valuable asset to the attack?

  2. Don't see him here next season. Here's hoping.

  3. He and he alone cost us the spl with that one penalty?

Aye very good, it was still in our hands after that game, we could even afford a draw and still have won the league.

  4. what a stupid thing to say 'he cost you the spl with his penalty'

We lost the spl because we didnt have the bottle to see it through.

  5. Well,it would have been better if he had scored it.The penalty itself was disapointing and weak though.
Anyway, back to the topic, would you like him to stay or is it bye bye time?

  6. Samaras never cost us anything last season.
He never played enough games to have a say in it !

  7. He never cost us the * title :31:

if we could get better we should punt him

  10. Stay. Like the big guy too much. Sometimes his lack of passion and energy want me to destroy him.

Do you not mean he cost us the SPL or are you not one of us.

  12. Punt him. Transfer fee and wages could be better spent. We need a return from our STs, regardless of whether they play 90 mins or 20 mins of a game. Seems like a really nice guy but sorry Sami just too inconsistent. And from your post, I'm guessing you support a different team yourself?

  13. :50: Picked up on that one myself...

  14. Good point that he never played enough to have any significant influence, that's his trouble, he never does enough when he is on the park when selected.

I can honestly say that I have really only seen him play no more than five decent games since he came to Celtic, yes the game against Rangers (2-0) and against the Russians in CL qualifier are the highpoints, but them and his debut apart tell please when he has actually performed well.

Basically he is lazy, he's reluctant to get stuck in, he doesn't have a clue were he is taking the ball, so what chance does his fellow team mates have of following him, and on top of all these failings he actually believes he's a good player.

Please sell him Celtic, he is a waste of space for the majority of the season !!!

  15. Just go please!

  16. His passion is the one thing that can't be questioned imo.

  17. He has had several chances to prove his ability, which he undoubtably has. He has also had his chance to prove his consistency levels, which are very *. Had his chance, hasn't taken it, punt him.

  18. I don't see the lazy criticism people throw out when talking about him, he has his flaws don't get me wrong but I dont' think that's one of them, even when he's having an absolute mare of a game he never stops running and is always looking for the ball.

He'd be a great player if he could find consistency, the ability is obviously there, like a couple of seasons ago he went on a run of scoring like 10 goals in 10 games or something before he got injured. Shame he hasn't recaptured that form.

Confidence is probably his biggest issue, it can't be great for a player to hear half the crowd groan or shout abuse when he miscontrols a ball slightly or overhits a pass by half a yard, sometimes it just seems like there are people waiting for an excuse to have a go at him, I've never seen our fans so quick to turn on a player during a game than they are with Sammy.

If Lenny think he can get the best out of him then great, but at this stage it might be better if he moved on, assuming we get someone better in first though, no point in punting him when he's our only striker that we know can play the lone role, or has a bit of pace.

  19. No he never cost us the title, sick of hearing people say that.

Anyone who believes Sammy cost us the title, need to get a grip.

I applaud Sammys commitment and I have nothing against him but I would prefer to see him sold.

I think it is unfair to say that one penalty miss cost us the title. Anybody at fault for conceding goals or failing to take chances in games where we dropped points are equally culpable.
