Pletikosa had an opportunity in two trials and wasnt good enough. Against Wolves he looked a bag of nerves. No club would have signed him on the basis of that.

However, if we thought he was good enough initially, we should have just signed him and forgot about the trials.

I said at the time that trials very rarely work. And because of this, we may have missed out on a decent keeper.

This whole scenario is a joke in my opinion. Im really surprised that Neil hasnt been screaming to get it sorted out. Its clearly Lawells role to agree fees etc.

The title has to be won this season. Has to be. * around like this has cost us in the past and we are making the same mistakes again. Underestimating our opposition and overestimating our squad.

Completely agree. Would be majorly panicking at the moment if it wasnt for Rangers being right up * creek. Only two positions were really needing sorted and that was a striker and a goalkeeper, not even close to signing either. Couldnt even cough up 2 million for this Pole.

Dunno if they were waiting till the end of the transfer window to see if Pardew would keep Forster as 3rd choice and try to sign him then, whilst chasing the polish boy as a backup- all of a sudden Genk have put forward the correct amount, we rush to make a last dash effort to get Forster now- will be rejected, and by then we will have lost our backup as well.

    * atrocious!

Not too happy at the moment with our dealings.

We've only offered 700K for a young keeper who has clearly got a lot of potential, when the club were wanting 1.8 mill. And now a Belgian team has simply jumped in in front of us with an accepted offer. Smacks of Rangers/Goodwillie to me.

So far we've signed Dylan McGeogh on a free, and completed the signings of Wilson and Matthews, also on frees, who were already on pre-contract from last season. Oh and Wanyama, who cost less than a million. If we're not willing to invest 1.8 mill in a good young keeper, then we could be losing out on yet another 15 million in CL cash.

My one hope is that the reason we only offered 700K for him was that we intended him as backup for our main target.

I am very patient in general with transfer dealings, but even I am starting to get a little * off here.

Why the panic? Zaluska was and is a very good Keeper. We signed him when he was first choice at D utd and everyone thought it was good business.
There are lots on here who didn't rate FF and he had one of the best seasons that any Celtic keeper has ever had. We failed to win the league last year because we didn't score often enough in some games, not because we conceded too many.
We still need a big imposing target man up front. As Jock Stein once said, " I don't mind how many goals we lose, just as long as we score one more than the opposition" That's what wins games.

Well, i think this will be a big opportunity for Zaluska. I know what it's like as a keeper to struggle to get into the team so i hope he does well.

I think people are going a little over the top here... yes it's disappointing that we failed to sign Sandomierski and we all want a quality goalkeeper for the season, but for people to say that unless we sign a new keeper the huns will win the league is a bit extreme... remember under MON we won 3 titles, 3 Scottish cups, 1 league cup and got to the UEFA cup final... with Rab Douglas as our no. 1. Is Zaluska really worse than Douglas? Based on what I've seen this season, and when he was at Dundee UTD, definitely not. Also there's still pleanty of time left in the transfer window. Calm down people. Having Zaluska in goal is not going to cost us the league by itself. People saying that really need to look at the level of support they're showing our players.

Douglas always looked like a painter/decorator to me instead of a keeper and he helped Porto to the UEFA cup win. Think he was better protected by his back four than our current custodians though.

You cant be serious comparing Zaluska to Douglas?? A goalie who last played nearly 7 years ago!! Why dont we start comparing that whole squad with the current one.

Why dont we base what we think of Zaluska on how he has performed over the time he has been here? Not one or two games, but over a period.

When he got a run in the side under Mowbray and then Lennon he was culpable in defeats against Falkirk, Dundee Utd, St Mirren (the game that cost TM) and the embarrassment that was Ross County. That is what he is capable of. Are we saying we can trust him to go through the whole season without having a spell of slip ups?

We seen a snapshot of Zaluska in the Inter Milan friendly. Yes he has kept two clean sheets so far. Has he had much to do? Not really. This weekend will be a test, as will the Sion game. Im with Neil on this one, he clearly doesnt fancy Zaluska, and neither do I.

I will be disappointed if we miss out on Sandomierski but I have always thought that the club was not going to pay too much for a keeper because I think they have already decided to bring in Craig Gordon on a bosman next season, although in the end that will probably leave us with another loan player in goals this year.

Where is this link to craig gordon eveybody keeps going on about. Lennon says he likes him but lennon says he likes a lot of players that we dont sign.....so what is this theory we are getting gordon on a bosman coming from....

...We need a keeper better than Zaluska, better than Forster, one who commands his area, screams at his defenders, fights with them if he has to, can come for crosses and capable of the odd game winning save.

I am gutted about Sandomierski as I felt this guy had some of these qualities but I cant be sure if he had them all, so hopefully there is still a target out there that we dont know about that will turn out to be the perfect fit to what we need....and then Sandomierski will be quickly forgotten about...
