We might as well get rid of The Fields Of Athenry and Let The People Sing then?

I agree we have have absolutley no sectarian songs what so ever. Celtic symphony is a cracking song :50:

However my friend, you have to accept that we all have different views on the IRA. I have nothing against the IRA and i also have no time for them. As a fierce scottish nationalist, i completely understand WHY there is an IRA, however i don't condone unnecessary killing.

Still, songs about politics have no place at football :50: I know its easy enough for me to say this but Lenny said it aswell :50:

So I would have been right to question your credentials then?

Until he does come out and say. Exactly what songs he doesn't want us singing. He leaves his words open to be twisted by the media sadly sadly. He could be talking about any song he doesn't make it clear.

Sorry pal where do these songs sing about the IRA? We've had this debate before and you fight your corner well and don't disagree with all that you say. But let me ask the Penguin a question. Do you find songs about Loyalist paramilitaries offensive?

I'm with the whole IRA thing, none of the songs are sectarian there's nothing wrong with them, its when the IRA chants come in to it, i don't see the point in them, but that's just my opinion.

And by fans who are determined not to listen. Pity some supporters find themselves needing to be spoon fed. IMO he was refering to the PIRA and IRA chants that were clearly audible throughout the tynecastle game.

What do you believe he was refering to?

If we were singing about the British military, do you think there would be an issue? Let's not pretend that couldn't be offensive to some people. Would we be slated for singing about British troops?

The problem lies in the fact we are singing about an Irish army and that demonstrates ignorance on the part of the people who call it sectarian. British troops have killed more innocent men, women and children than the IRA ever did. For some reason though, they are heroes and any opposing army are terrorists.

In my opinion no one should be singing about the British military either.

When people hear IRA or RA being sang by Celtic supporters they don't think 'oh well it's 1916 they're on about so thats ok.' They only hear IRA which are very emotive letters for some people and I really believe most Celtic fans don't want to hear it.

I don't really care what the media or the huns think about IRA songs, as a Celtic supporter I don't want to hear them.:shamrock:

Nice try, but that's not what i asked. I asked, do you think the reaction would be the same? Would we be labelled sectarian?

I actually find it amusing how certain media figures have suddenly gone on an anti sectarian crusade and targeting Republican songs when the very people at the head of our state are sectarian in their make up. It's all down to the IRA though....

Not particularly. I find their songs like this

    and this
    offensive.

Anyone who attempts to equate our songs about Irish freedom fighters to the sectarian and racist bile that they sing is being stupid. Sadly the media are doing just that. :54:

We don't sing sectarian songs, we sing political songs. Nothing wrong in singing about the brave men and women who gave there lives for irelands struggle for freedom.
