I'm sick of these threads. There's people in our support who would happily let our support be dragged through the mud. The huge problem of regularly singing sectarian songs, lies with the huns but it seems this is now another 'Old Firm' problem - we can thank the media for that.

The Celtic support does not have a problem.

    I have but very rarely.

Neil Lennon asked the fans not to sing about the IRA. We should do as he says.

None of the songs are sectarian by definition.

That said they are devisive, and I for one would rather not hear them and dont sing them. The IRA and PIRA chants are especially pointless imo.

I agree with Metrobhoy, ILWT :celt_2:

Lennon called for an end to "offensive amd sectarian chanting". Although the songs we are talking about are not sectarian they are offensive to some people.

Offensive is a subjective term but I think we all know what he was refering to.

They are offensive to people that don't know anything about history.

He never asked the fans to stop singing IRA songs. No need to put words in his mouth.:50:

He never used the word sectarian.:50:

Edit: According to the article he didn't saying anything you put in quotation.

No need to start questioning other posters credentials. I find songs and chants about the IRA unnecessary and inflamatory.

I have no problem with fans singing about their clubs heritage, where it irks me is when we reach the point of a minority of fans chanting IRA and PIRA and making additions to otherwise perfectly good football songs. The whole point of this thread is that very few of our songs are sectarian...Good news IMO.

I firmly believe our club has rich enough cultural foundations and a good enough team on the park that we need not descend into this and to be honest with you it stinks of "lowest common denomenator" behaviour that I associate with the dark side

    OK.

    When Neil Lennon says
"In recent times, unfortunately there has been a re-emergence from a small minority, of some of the singing and chanting which is simply not acceptable around our club."

What songs and chants do you believe he is reffering to?

How am I question credentials? You posted something he didn't say and put it in quotation.
99% of our away fans at Tynecastle. They represent the hardcore of our support so its not a minority.

What do you find so awful about songs that are about Irish patriots who fought and died for their country. If are fans were singing songs about Scottish patriots there wouldn't be a problem.

Hard to think of many songs that are sectarian in the way the huns sing about being up to their knees in * blood!

However no place for any songs about the IRA, Provisional or Original or whatever. I would suggest that a football match is the wrong place to remember people who have given their lives for Irish freedom anyway.

Trivialising peoples death in order to get one up on in the chanting stakes is quite pathetic really and reflects badly on our FOOTBALL club.

We need to move on, which we will be able to much more easily that the other mob!:shamrock:

I know for a fact he isn't talking about sectarian songs. Like you said.

This thread was questioning. Name one sectarian song our fans sing?

It seems every time a thread like this pops up its used as a opportunity. For fans who don't like IRA songs to have a pop at fans that though.
