Only if you equate everything Irish with supporting the IRA, which I don't think anyone here does.

Well I and many others have expressed our disquiet at IRA chants and the ones who are singing them don't give a *. We're supposed to be united in support for the club. The way I see it certain individuals don't care if the club gets into trouble. Too many of our fans are Irish wannabees. A lot of us stand in silence because we think that we're in the minority and are afraid to speak up.

Celtic are more than a football club, and that means we have a responsibility to change with the times and to meet the new needs of our community, and the Celtic support. That, today, means we need to stop the chants

Anyone who continues to sing them are the ones who think Celtic is just a football club. Think it is separate from them and they are allowed to express their outdated political opinion at it while ignoring the wider Celtic community, while the Club and all that surrounds it has gone beyond that. They ignore everything Celtic as a club and as a support says, even just going by this poll a majority want it to stop.

The fact that you support Celtic surely means that you understand the context in which our clubs preside.

Like yourself, I'm no cafflick, and i find much of this stuff a bit alien at times.

But the history cannot (imo) be ignored, Celtic are a team that has battled through bigatory for over a hundred years and for that I am proud.

The songs we sing express that. I sing no Cafflick songs at Parkhead and I never would, the songs we sing speak of the salvation of a people.

What is so wrong about that?

The poll on the this thread indicates we are a silent majority really... which is a positive, I suppose.

No one has mentioned banning the flags on here but I have heard the suggestion made on a few occasions today on various media outlets.

Man up and show that you have a brain  If they sing those songs the spotlights on them and it is them who will ultimately pay. Times are a changing and I can see a firmer stance being taken. This country has been humiliated beyond belief in the eyes of the world and they will want to put a stop to it.

    A great post pal. :50:

But i do have a problrm here with stopping the "songs". If it were to end the troubles, and save our managers life then I would - without remorse - stop.

    But will it end there?

Can you really tell me it will? Cos I don't beleive it, our history has always been handed down in songs or poems. The tales of our heroes of old.

That's the way it was handed to me, on the terraces in the jungle.

    Let the people sing.

Most of our songs last night were sung in defiance. Last night we were attacked as a football club.

That's all fine and well but what has that to do with not being Irish nor Catholic ?

I'm not from Ireland and am not Catholic and I have never ever felt that my "voice wasn't heard", whatever the * that actually means........

I'm not against the rebels per se, just against songs that refer to the IRA or the troubles.
