Who's history GLASGOW Celtic FOOTBALL Club?

not 1 part of that sentence says IRA, its tripe that you schpeel that tars cfc with the sectarian brush, you my friend are just a sectarian as the rangers fans you cry yourself to sleep about every night complaining about. People should stop using our club as a political standing stone and see them for a football club.

:38::38::38: A poor blinkered view, IRA songs have no place in the making of an atmosphere at a sporting event.

Who says dropping IRA songs means dropping the rebel songs? Roll of Honor, Sean South, Roamin' in the Gloaming, The Fields of Athenry without the IRA additions-those are all rebel songs, and they all strongly reflect the club's heritage. Is it not sufficiently rebellious or Irish if it doesn't explicitly say IRA?

the media are desperately clutching at straws to make us looks as bad as the huns. This is why the IRA chants must stop, there is nothing sectarian (going on the basis that a Greek orthodox police officer was acquitted of sectarian breach of the peace for singing that song) about the BOTOB but it doesn't belong in a football ground.

Make the media desperate, the whole world can see that Scottish media are biased and ignorant, if we can keep the way we are the now and rise above this sorry state of affairs.

No, that's wrong. The IRA songs are not as bad as the Rangers songs, because they aren't about taking glee in killing Catholics. There is no "F___ Martin Luther" equivalent of "F____ the Pope", there is no "Up to our knees in heretic blood" equivalent of "Up to our knees in * blood".

At the same time, though, "We're not as bad as them!" is never a defense that Celtic fans should be using. Of course we aren't as bad as them; that's who we are! But our bar is higher than that-we're not trying to be better than Rangers, because we ought not to be defining ourselves by what the bigots do. Our own legacy is the standard to which we strive to live up.

Well if stopping singing the songs will stop the bombs, then ok. I'll stop.

If stopping singing the songs will bring peace to the old firm then I'll stop.

Some on here seem to be of the opinion that it will.

Do you have any odds on that? I'll seriously look at what you have.

So if I stop singing "the" songs.... and in 2 years time we're still getting the *.... what are you going to suggest? Ban the tricolour? Cos thats next.

It will only end when we're wearing red white & blue, singing the billy boys.

Let them sing, let us sing.

    We shall overcome.

Totally agree mate.our history as a football club is the trophies we have won to the wonderful footballers, managers and so on.it doesn't include freedom fighters, terrorists or whatever people want to call them.we are just a football club.

Well sayed Seamus. Some people on here are so terrified of the media and what they report. They have shat on us for over 120 years and reported what they want.

1... I have no problem with their songs...find a post where i have denounced thier songs. (other than arguing a point)

2... Get a book & read how we were formed. A charity in the east side of glasgow to help the poor.

At the time the social dynamics of Glasgow were that the majority of the poor were refugee's from Ireland, displaced from their own country by British laws that made it illegal for them to own land, subjected to 80% tax on protein, unable to vote or hold their own government.

People can't live on potatoes, it wasn't a famine, it was a state influenced starvation.

That is where our club came from. And I will sing it with all my heart.

If you're gonna be pernickety then not everyone was joining in with the huddle, two folk in the row behind me weren't doing the huddle.

However in both cases 99.9% of our support sang IRA songs and done the huddle.
