its a joke. celtic need to be prepare to go the extra mile for a player we desire. we are cheap and thats part of the reason why we are badly failing of late.

Think you'll find this falling through is as much celtic's fault as Brann's. The quoted "£320,000" plus add ons in installments is a very low offer for someone who is a Norwegian International.Maybe Brann wanted the full £1mil upfront but celtic were doing their usual penny pinching, you don't really know the full story.

I think we have been really sensible this, if Lenny doesn't think he's worth what they are asking - leave it. I have trust in him on this one.

It's ok moving on but to who ? Lets hope Lenny has someone else up his sleeve. Totally agree we should not be held to ransom by teams who suddenly up the price !

Scandinavians have had a central role in Neil Lennon’s Celtic career.
He played behind one of the best in Henrik Larsson and in front of one of the most committed in Johan Mjallby. For a few barmy months he even played alongside one of the craziest in Thomas Gravesen, yet would probably rather forget that surreal experience.
Others, like Norwegian Vidar Riseth, had a more peripheral role in the early days of Lennon’s Parkhead stay, yet he always retained a healthy respect for players from that corner of the globe. This perhaps emanated from the obsessive manner in which his Swedish team-mate, Pontus Kamaark, man-marked Juninho during Leicester City’s 1997 League Cup final win over Middlesbrough.
A fondness for all things Scandinavia is visible in Lennon’s work as Celtic manager. He has installed Mjallby as his assistant and in recent months Thomas Rogne and Daniel Majstorovic, a Norwegian and a Swede, have emerged as his first-choice defensive partnership.
Swedish veteran Freddie Ljungberg was lured to Glasgow’s east end earlier this month, while Erik Huseklepp, the emerging star of Norwegian football, came close to joining last week. Celtic are also known to be monitoring the situation of Michael Silberbauer, Utrecht’s Danish captain.
A pattern has emerged as Lennon continues to scour Scandinavia for fresh talent. Riseth, now retired after an 18-year professional career, is fully behind his former team-mate’s approach as he bids to win the Clydesdale Bank Premier League title in his first full season in charge.
“It’s simple. Scandinavians always seem to do well in Scotland because they are willing to work hard and be team players,” said Riseth. “Adapting to Scottish football is no problem for players from Norway, Sweden and Denmark. It’s very rare to find anyone having difficulty.
“It’s natural that Celtic will look to this market, because they have had success there before. You know what you are going to get from Scandinavians. You get talented, hard-working players who will form a tight bond with their team-mates. There is no language or cultural barrier.
“The success of Rogne and Majstorovic in the last few months proves this. They have become a strong partnership and a lot of that is down to their background. There is a big age gap, but they have managed to build up a quick understanding. I watched the game against Rangers and they were strong together.
“I know Thomas [Rogne] and before he agreed the move to Glasgow, I took a phone call from Celtic asking for my opinion. Straight away, I encouraged them to sign him.
“I always felt he had the talent to play at a higher level. My prediction, so far, has proved correct, but I am not surprised. When he joined Celtic, people said it was for the future. I told them the future is now. He had a hard time with injury, but now he is showing his qualities.”
Riseth often displayed his versatility during his three years at Celtic. Full-back, central defence, midfield; the Norwegian filled a multitude of positions at Parkhead. In recent days, he has found a new role as an agony uncle.
Every Celtic transfer window seems to have a saga. Last January, it was Ivan Ramis. In the summer, it was Jimmy Bullard and Sol Campbell. January 2011 could be remembered as the month of Huseklepp, the man who has been pouring his heart out to Riseth. At the midway point of the bi-annual rumour-fest, Celtic and Brann Bergen, Huseklepp’s club, are both refusing to budge. Celtic made what was felt to be a fair offer for the striker and Brann, much to the dismay of Huseklepp, asked for a few more krone.
It’s all gone quiet on that front as Celtic continue to be associated with more strikers than Arthur Scargill, yet Riseth hopes Celtic and Brann can come together to resolve the situation. “I am very friendly with Erik and I have spoken to him a lot over the last week,” he said. “He was extremely upset that he did not get to make his dream move.
“When he signed his new contract with Brann, he was under the impression that he would be allowed to leave for a bigger club if they offered a certain price. It wasn’t a low price, it was a fair price. But when Celtic made their offer, Brann wanted more money.
“Erik has been one of the best players in Norway over the last few years. He is quick, strong and extremely skilful. I was surprised that Brann did not manage to agree the fee with Celtic. I thought they would find a middle ground. At the moment the deal is locked, but maybe that will change. I hope it does.”
