Celtic Supporters Thread (contains GB chat)

Discussion in 'Celtic Chat' started by Paul67, Dec 17, 2010.

  1. I had a quick look and saw the bits about the "IRA praising ditty" and the pics of the Huns running across Hampden.

That article is a complete * joke and I hope you know that :smiley-laughing002:

  2. It's the only widespread survey I've read regarding the OBAF act. WingsOverScotland are one of the best pro-independence sites out there as far as I'm concerned and tbh I'm inclined to trust their research.

I do believe most Celtic fans support it to be perfectly honest. The vocal minority always grabs the headlines and what not but the petitions put forward by FAC have not attracted many e-signatures have they, in comparison to the general Celtic support.

Personally, I disagree with the policing more than the act itself. I think theiy're over eager to arrest and charge people and I think that has a lot to do with justifying budgets more than anything...

  3. I don't know if you've read that site before but I can tell you the guy who runs it has no time for the huns as you could probably tell from way he referred to them, so don't go down that route...

Isn't the ROH an 'IRA praising ditty' though? Whether you agree or disagree with singing it, thats what it is :smiley-laughing002:

  4. So you don't believe most Celtic fans support the act but you do trust the survey? :97:

There's no way Celtic fans are more in favour of this than the general public and that casts serious doubts over the rest of the survey. That article you link to publicise the methodology used?

  5. What? :smiley-laughing002: I said I do believe most Celtic fans support the act.

Fair enough if thats your viewpoint but I've never heard of or read another survey carried out to determine views on the act, this is the only one and as I said I do trust the website as I've found them to be spot on in their reporting of the referendum amongst over things.

Wow, sorry. I read that wrong. Saw what I expected to see. Do you believe a higher percentage of Celtic fans support the act than the general public?

  6. Honestly? I'd have said no to that before I read the survey, I'm not surprised most of our fans support the act but that did surprise me that the fans surveyed supported it more than the average joe. Tbf though a quarter of Celtic fans surveyed were against the act compared to 14% of the general public so we're quite polarised as a fanbase.

  7. :56:

FFS I never said he had any time for Huns. I am just pointing out that the bill has * all affect on stopping the sort of scenes in that pic.

It is a song remembering the sacrifice of those you bravely gave their lives for their community. To describe it as an "IRA ditty" is hardly impartial is it ?

Whoever wrote that is a * scumbag.

If that is the sort of * you want to read that is up to you but if you believe it is representative of Celtic fans you are clearly deluded.

  8. I think those stats sound about right, although I am a little surprised to see more support from us than the general public. I think there's more people than we realise that think the problems are down to poor policing. There's no law against being a teenage male but I found my self constantly getting hassle off the police when me and my pals were that age. We weren't even troublemakers :smiley-laughing002:
It's a little harsh to call the writer a * scumbag. He's not really said anything wrong, it is a song about members of the Ira.
I think he is impartial. He's probably just one of the many Scottish people outside us and the Huns that doesn't feel any real connection to Ireland and the troubles.

  9. To people who agree/support/accept the act.

What is it you like about it that wasn't already covered under existing racism/sectarianism/bigotry laws?

  10. The fact of the matter is, this act was designed to "even up" arrest rates because they couldn't huckle Celtic fans under existing laws because our songs aren't bigoted, sectarian or racist.

Any Celtic fan that supports it * disgust me to be perfectly honest.

  11. Its to associate republicanism with Sectarianism nothing else

  12. spot on :50: the * who support all probably belt out Let the people sing when there at the game and all bunch of soup taking sheep

  13. This is the crux of it. He can be whatever sort of Celtic supporter he wants to be but if he supports the persecution of Celtic supporters for singing Irish Republican songs then he has * all appreciation of Celtic.

  14. What is it now? Are the government lying about the stats aye?

  15. The bill is a joke.

So any stats taken from the bill are going to be meaningless.
