They obviously didn't. One was a 14th century landowning knight and the other was a 20th century Irish Republican. The views each had would have been completely unfathomable to the other.

Of course that isn't the meaning of the display - to try and connect the two. It's to ask why is some political views acceptable and others are not. To ask why only the mainstream is acceptable. That message I agree with.

Celtic supporters being arrested in Scotland for singing songs about republican freedom fighters (also seen by some as terrorists), but yet the most famous figure used by Scottish parliament is a freedom fighter (seen as a terrorist by our masters in the UK - Engerlund).

    Double standards and discrimination.

I can't criticise them for the banner but I would have preferred something related to the team for such a big game.

the club should back the fans on this but we all know they wont.

The key wording in the rule is 'not fit for a sports event'. why would a message like this NOT be fit for a sports event. Let them make there case on why sports should not make social comments. They are keen enough to promote racism issues ...... isn't that really the realm of politics? are race equality issues not ideological ? who decides what is offensive/provocative as these are subjective to individuals.

particularly messages that are of a political, ideological, religious, offensive or provocative nature

religious -- didn't ajax fans have star of david flags etc

if the club wanted to fight this they would have an excellent case -- but they just want to turn us into another * business club with no soul.

the sooner some rich arab starts a new competition to challenge the CL the better. these * have a monopoly and they abuse it

Then - and I say this with the utmost respect - if you were at the game you should have brought your own banner.

Absolutely sick of people thinking they have the right to tell people what they expect when they are not helping out with banners, tifos, atmosphere whatsoever.

Surely the GB knew that UEFA don't allow political banners, very foolish thing to do.

UEFA do allow politics at football. Only politics it agrees with though. It's not foolish to express yourself politically anywhere. It's a basic freedom.

Write to UEFA and they might give you an explanation.

They fought to liberate their respective lands from oppression so in what world is there no parallel between the two?

The display is certainly intended to link the two for the reason you mentioned. If they didn't fight for the same ideals, there would be no point in drawing the comparison as people could say that one was a terrorist and the other was a freedom fighter.

What about other clubs advertising Political Parties?

Im pretty sure Tannadice has several SNP Advertising boards, are we now going to boycott that stadium for bringing politics into football?

If DUTD got to the CL group stages (LOL) and had a SNP (or any other party) advertising board they'd probably be fined. You're only allowed to show UEFA sponsors in the stadium on CL nights, even the Nike tics on the top tier of the North Stand are partially covered for CL games because they aren't a UEFA sponsor.

I can see what you mean mate but in a Bill-and Ted style situation in which we could bring them together (in a water-park in modern day California) I'd like to think that after a few beers and some chat they would get on to a similar wavelength :50:

The club said in the statement "Celtic Football Club can confirm that any individual or group identified as being involved in any form of political display at a match involving Celtic will be banned immediately from attending matches involving the Club."

So what about fellow Premiership clubs openly advertising Politics? there can be no bigger a political display than having several advertising boards in full view of everyone.
