Some so called Celtic fans make me * sick they really do.

How anyone can make excuses for the scenes witnessed is beyond me.

I guess their disdain for a ragtag bunch of "self styled rebels" outweighs their ability to be objective.

I dont think we are two sides of the same coin. But like any big collective of people I think we have fans who behave themselves and fans who dont. The difference is that you look at situations such as this when people wearing green and white are impacted and instantly scream persecution and blame the police. You look at fans wearing blue and pass it off as something they "probably deserve" because they have fans who misbehave themselves.

If you think I am on a high horse then fair enough, but I am at least being consistent. If these videos showed rangers fans there would be few on here blaming the police, and people would be lining up to bash the rangers crowd for misbehaving.

No. I am just able to criticise both sides. I dont think the police are behaving correctly. I dont think the Green Bridage are behaving correctly. I am not in the GB and I am not in the police so I feel no need to pick a side and it has nothing to do with my ability to be objective. I am just calling it as I see it.

6 police on one wee boy-what is that all about, Police need to get things in perspective.Plus at the end of the video were they trying to get the camera phone off of the guy who was videoing!! Anyway now I have posted on this topic-I expect my chap at the door!!! Ho! Ho!
PS the reason they had to use they tactics if I am seeing right the vast majority of Glasgow Police need to be sent to 'Fat Club'. So if there was a foot chase on then they would have had no chance.

I hate to say it but you are right Sween.

(Although I still do not in any way condone the actions of the Police yesterday. From what I can make out, they stepped way over the line.)

The young lad in that video is the one seen in earlier pictures with his facedown in a puddle with a handful of cops on top of him. Apparently been charged with BOTP and resisting arrest and has been banned from Celtic games until the end of the season.

Yesterday simply has to be a watershed moment. If things carry on as they are after yesterday then the game is up. They police have been exposed to all and sundry and even by their despicable lengths some of the stuff now emerging about yesterday - stories but more importantly pictures and videos - is vile.

Unfortunately as we can see on this thread you have people on here still trying to skirt the issue and plant the seeds in order to make some sort of justification for what happened yesterday. While this sadly this does not come as a surprise, you would hope that these people are a small minority and the vast majority actually do care about the welfare of their fellow Celtic supporters.

    Rangers Fans

If the video showed a young Rangers fan being put to the ground by 6 Police-and I can only base my opinion on the video that I just watched. I would still be on the side of the young lad. If you stand up for yourself, it seems that you are getting lifted.

I can see where you're coming from, but to be honest I can't think of a situation that's occurred where this has happened. Thinking of all of the Huns battles with the police over the years, they have deserved every single beating they have taken. They have not been victimised, as much as they claim otherwise, and because of this their reputation precedes them, so it is a reasonable assumption that a 'protest' from them is going to involve violence of some sort. That being said if the same thing, under the same circumstances happened yesterday but those in green were wearing blue I would react in the same way. The issue is now bigger than the Green Brigade, bigger than Celtic even, it is threatening the liberty of Scotland's citizens every time they walk out of their door to the football.

    To paraphrase:

First they came for the Green Brigade, and I did not speak out because I wasn't in the Green Brigade,
Then they came for the away support, and I did not speak out because I didn't attend away matches,
Then they came for me, and there was no one left to speak for me

See even if that was true, what actual point does it have to the debate we are having about over zealous policing?

Why do people constantly try to muddy the waters?

your ability to criticise both sides?

Ok Muhatma Sween, what did the CELTIC SUPPORT do to deserve that yesterday?

I really think we should stop calling them GB and call them Celtic supporters because that's what they are.

In the you tube video that someone posted a link to there is a comment from a rangers fan who is complaining of similar treatment from the police. You cannot say just because one club has a higher proportion of thugs to another, then it excuses the way their average fan is treated.

But you are perhaps right. If this issue is to gather any momentum outside of the GB and celtic forums, people need to view than as a actual police issue rather than a football issue. Rightly or wrongly I just dont think that is going to happen.

My point is that if people are serious about claims of police brutality or whatever else, they need to move beyond the argument of GB v police. The idea that Celtic fans are hard done by, or that the police are all huns, or that it has something to do with a political struggle or whatever else.

If the issue is that the police are wrong in how they are acting the only way people outwith the GB are going to side with the GB is if the GB start behaving themselves. A group of youngsters in hoodies, covering the faces with football scarves, moaning about over zealous policing is not going to have even the smallest impact on people other than those on celtic forums and the GB.

As I have said in every post thus far, I dont think the behaviour of the police was right yesterday.

This is what I was saying though, the Huns claim this, but there don't seem to be any examples of it actually happening. Manchester for example, was claimed as the polices fault, the game against Unirea was the same. It is important to make a distinction between genuine heavy handedness (like yesterday), and the police dealing with a violent group intent on mass destruction (like Manchester)
Sadly, I agree. At the minute it just seems to be the old 'conspiracy' amongst us paranoid Celtic fans.

I think this is getting towards being a fair comment, but what is your alternative? That being said, I'm not sure what you mean by the GB starting to behave themselves? As far as I could see yesterday the only people looking for a fight were wearing high vis jackets and wielding batons

I'm not sure there's anyone, apart from the most ardent Uncle Tim, amongst us who could dispute that.

It's absurd isn't it? A quite pathetic line that was put out by the police yesterday in an attempt to justify their actions being repeated by Celtic supporters who are keen themselves to muddy the waters. At times you really do despair.

I know we are not allowed to post from other forums on here so I won't but my mate who is a Sunderland fan is contributor to AMF ( Against Modern Football) says this was being discussed on their forum last night.

I don't know a great deal about the group I am just making the point this is not only being discussed by GB supporters or even Celtic fans but by English football supporters who are against Police harassment of ordinary football supporters.

For the record over zealous policing is over zealous policing whether it is against Celtic fans, Huns, Chelsea fans or Linfield fans.

To be fair, I actually know very little about the general behaviour of rangers fans (other than it often isnt very good). My point wasnt to derail the thread, but simply to say if people are serious about raising this issue then it cannot be based on "were celtic and noone likes us". It has to be a concerted effort to really illustrate what is happening to football fans across the board and why it is happening. As you say, at the moment we arent beyond the celtic parnoia stage.

What is the alternative? That is a tough question. But I think the most sensible approach would have been for the GB at the start of the season to have a get together and decide that they wouldnt give the police any excuses. That means no contentious "political" banners, no flares, no IRA songs, if this "lateral movement" thing is an actual issue then no lateral movement. They have proven their ability to step up and support the team to great extents without doing any of this. There is no need for it. Then if they are still getting undue grief from the police they go to the board at the end of the season and hand back their season books.

This would force a reaction because firstly the plc can point to the fact that the police are targeting a group that havent stepped out of line, and secondly the wider football universe and people outside football will start to question what the police are doing.

With the cold and rain yesterday I'm not sure how many people didn't have a scarf covering their face and a hood up, I know I did. And I didn't have a camera pointing in my direction either, or I would have been even more inclined to cover up.
