My point is that the judge at the time said if the death penalty was available they would all have hanged, so innocent men would have died.
I think the death penalty does'nt work as a deterent as if you are sick enough to molest a child you're going to do it anyway.

I think its a hard question to answer. For * offenders who have been 100% proven guilty i think castration should be looked at as a possibility, but that would solve all the problems. The death penalty could only be used in special circumstances. If a person commits a massive crime (like blowing up a school) and shows no remorce for what he/she has done i think they deserve death.

Can't decide for UK, can only speak for my country.

I voted a yes (for very * crimes). Instead of sitting in jail for the rest of their lives, which costs * much, just make sure a) they will never do it again and b) save up some money.

Have to agree with Gerry. Miscarriages of justice do happen, and the death penalty means there is no 2nd chance to put it right.

fair point... BUT ask yourself why you said that in the first place?
Your angry about what child molestors do, your angry about what cop killers do and your angry about what happened to that wee innocent kid in Edinburgh the other day. I think everyone would agree with you.

Trouble is that anger solves nothing. If you strung the ba$t@rds up it would make us all feel better for the next little while but in the end once everyone's anger died down nothing would have been done to solve the problem and we'd be right back where we started from.

Normally I would say yes for serious offences like child predators and abusers, serial killers, serious murders things like that. However the question says in the UK and well that's a government that has much innocent blood on it's hands and as someone rightly pointed to in another post when the english railroaded the Birmingham 6 the judge said he would have imposed the death penalty if he could have and all along the english knew they were innocent. But in principle I would say yes.

Interestingly I live in Illinois and just a few years ago the death penalty was put on hold as it was found that numerous innocent people were on death row. Govenor Ryan who put the hold on executions is no longer in office as he was caught up in a corruption scandal himself and hopefully will be heading to jail himself soon as he was recently convicted but is now out on appeal.
