I am going to keep this short and sweet. Does Lennon have full control over the team, or is Lennon a " Yes Man ", with interference from above in transfer targets, team selections, and team formations.

I have reasons for asking this, but first of all I want to see what the rest of the forum thinks or feels about this.

I'd be very very surprised if Lennon wasn't in full control of who he put on the park, although I think there is a definite percentage of interference when it comes to certain transfer targets. Robbie Keane being the example. Did Tony Mowbray actually want him?

What do you mean by 'interference'?

He will be led in terms of player signings by his scouting system, the same way the majority of top European clubs are. Those targets he believes are worthwhile pursuing are then passed on to Lawwell and it is out of his hands from there.

Team selections and formations are ultimately his own, assisted obviously by his backroom staff otherwise there would be no need for them to be there in the first place.

If you are attempting to intimate Lennon is a puppet then you couldn't be further from the truth. We all know who Neil Lennon the man is and it isn't in his character.

I believe lennon to be in full control at picking the team,i cant see who else can pick the team in our club
as for new signings there are many factors built in i.e. the KI signing am sure the powers to be have alot of input

i couldnt imagine our manager is the sort of man that would allow anyone to tell him how to do his job.

if lennon hasnt the 100% control of the team? then he should walk. no manager should have interferance in any team matters

    Lennon 100%

There is no way a man of Lennon's passion and fire would allow himself to be a puppet.

When Lenny was unveiled as manager he made it crystal clear that he would be calling the shots, he's already a very wealthy man, he dosen't need to cling to a job as a yes man.

I agree that team matters are 100% in Lenny's hands.

That doesn't mean that he's got 100% power over which players are available for selection within a squad though , like in the instance of Mcgeady in the summer , who it seemed was not being played in European games incase it affected the chances of him being sold.. Im sure if we had a player like Crosas hardly featuring at all , yet being one match away from opening up a clause that meant Celtic would have to pay Barcelona another £400k for example then Lenny would be told that he's not available for selection.. Or if a deal is already being agreed between Celtic and another club about the sale of Samaras in January , that he won't be played again for fear of him picking up any kind of injury and ruining a potential sale..

I don't give Mowbray credit for the signing of Ki or the signing of Keane because I don't believe he had any great input in them and I think we could have something similar happen this January with a signing coming in , but if they benefit the team in general then I don't think Lenny would have a problem with the board over ruling him..

I believe he would make decisions re team and tactics but not who comes in/out. Certainly over the past few years we have players from all over the planet and from the comments made by the Manager at the time, along the lines of 'good player, great asset to squad/team, seen videos etc' when we secured folks like Juarez,Izzi,Ki,Mizuno and then young guns like Misun, and Twardzick x2, I understood that they were 'Corporate' decisions.
It seems a long time ago that the Manager - MON - decided on everything relating to players right down to approving visits to the dentist. Those days are gone at Parkhead. Think the ' Hey Bobo do you fancy £28k pw for 4 years but if you find anywhere better you can leave with our blessing', put an end to that. We are now a corporate business that has a football team.

Listen mate things are not always as black and white as that in life but I take your point it would be ludicrous if Lawwell is picking the team and Lenny was so desperate to get the job, he would take on those working conditions.

However these are some pointers that have me wondering. I remember a screen shot of Lenny at the last Old Firm game, when Loovens has just * up, and as the camera panned in on Lenny's face, he just looked up at the director's box at Lawwell and Reid, with a " I told you so " expression on his face.

Lennon picks the team, I have no doubt about that.

I'm really not sure he has much influence on our signings though, I would say John Park is the man for that.

Very true mate starange things happen, but come on, there is no way Lawwell or Reid are picking the team and it was the same with O'Neil, Strachan and Mowbray.

Just look at hearts with Romanov what happened there found its way to the media and if Lawwell was doing the same, am sure some mole would have went to the press.

Maybe he was looking up at Lawwell telling him to get him a top class defender in January. :icon_mrgreen:

Think your reading a bit to much into that mate.

I thought John Park was away too. Thought I heard he gone back to Hibs to be Head of Developement. Is it not Ray Clarke that is our Chief Scout now ?
