    Vidic for me, the sort of central defender I love, he's as hard as nails.

    Puyol runs him a very close second though, Barca are so attack-minded that he's left short time and time again, yet deals with it brilliantly. His leadership is brilliant too.

    are you all missing the fact that lucio:

    has surprising pace for a Cb
    is great in the air
    unmatched defensive mind and tackling ability
    AND he has very good dribbling and shot for a CB.

    Am a big fan of Vidic and Carvalho. Would have loved to have seen them 2 play together. Pique is fast becoming the best though. He has everything in his locker.

    For me it's between Puyol, Vidic and Carvalho, Carvalho made Terry look half decent even though he was actually shocking positionally, and has since gone on to shore up the Real Madrid defence which is quite some achievement considering how bad it's been for years. Vidic has been really off form since being made the captain at United but you know the old saying about form and class. Puyol is again not so good positionally but has everything else, pace strength and determination. I would also say Cris from Lyon who is really underrated because he doesn't play in one of the "big leagues", he might be getting on a bit now but has been one of the best in the world for years.

    Never been a fan of Lucio, for someone who's apparently "a beast" he dives like a * jessy a helluva lot. Likewise with Pepe, nothing annoys me more than a centre back who's a complete *.

    Pique for me! Quick, strong, good in the air, great positioning and uses the ball like a world class midfielder. It's strange to have a centre half that you love watching, but I could watch Pique all day. Think of his goal against Inter in last years Champions League semi final, ridiculous for a centre half but he can defend aswell. Will be the next long term Barca captain aswell!

    Pique is really not that good imo he is too often caught on the counter, for me it would have to be ferdinand but he is now getting a bit old, tbh there aren't that many stand out CBs around, and not any very good young ones either
