Having skimmed the GB's statement earlier today but having just finished reading the whole thing through a short while ago , it's plainly obvious the banner was directed at our own club and nobody else , in a sense a private matter that they decided to do publicly because Celtic had already made the stance about wearing the poppy on the hoops this year , and had posted as such on the Celtic website , without having first consulted the GB about it so this is the action they have taken in response , making it a public embarresment for Celtic..

I take back my previous guess that bannings won't be dished out.. I think they will be..

No this comment in particular makes you clueless -
People have been brought up supporting Celtic FC. Nothing else.

That may be the case in Serbia but it sure as * is not the case in Scotland and Ireland. Could not be further from the truth.

Wrong expression then, should've said some people are brought up supporting CFC.

Nah, people here aren't brought up supporting Celtic.

Now, there are also people who are not interested in politics and support Celtic only because of football. Does that make them clueless or less of a fan than others?

It doesn't make them clueless nor less of a fan. It means they are not Celtic minded as such but there's little wrong with that.

The way I look at it is this, the Poppy is more generally associated with WW1 and WW2, I noticed on their 'banner' that they failed to mention the two largest battles of the last century and indeed of all time...

Now my Grandfather fought in the second war and survived, loads of his pals did not. I feel they deserve to have there ultimate sacrifice remembered, always.

The way we, the people of Scotland, Britain, Ireland, the free world, where-ever, should look at this (in my opinion) is not as a political statement, it should simply be a way of remembering the dead.

If people wish to brand the youngsters who died pointlessly in there millions in WW1 or my Papa and his mates fighting against the true evil of fascism in WW2 as 'Devils', then fair enough....but do so in in your own front rooms and don't make the rest of us and the club look like we believe what you do. If you wanna be arseholes do so without bringing us down to your level.

Forget about the politics behind these conflicts because wearing the poppy is NOT about that, it is about the dead. People can protest any other time of the year about Iraq....etc. Why should you take the deads respect away at this exact time? And why do so at a football stadium?

Forget about that nonsense reason we are in Afghanistan....DO read the following verse from Binyons poem and think about the young, young men who never got to fully live there lives because they died for heartbreaking pointlessness (WW1) or a truly just cause (WW2).

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years contemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
    We will remember them."

Poppy doesn't only represent the two World Wars, it represents the dead of all Britains conflicts, past and present, and a lot of them have got no more than they deserved. No one is arguing about the World Wars, which is why they aren't mentioned.

    WOW that was painfull,
Just read the whole thread & I've got to say we have some fair minded Celtic fans who can understand the real Celtic behind the bravado of politics, the Celtic of charity, understanding, compasion & for all.

The GB did more than embarrass & divide their own fans on Saturday, they managed to once again in front of the whole country, drag Celtic back into the dark ages.

    Time to grow up ffs!!!

Explain your whole theory on being celtic minded.

I think I'm celtic minded as I've supported them as long as I can remember, everytime I have a spare amount of cash I always look for a ticket to a celtic game or buy me or the wee man something celtic. If any footballs on I always think of celtic regardless of who's playing because I'm always comparing us to other teams and seeing where we can improve. If I go on my laptop I always check newsnow for any news on celtic, then I come on here to talk about celtic.

So you tell me where I'm not celtic minded. Please enlighten me

Celtic Minded - understanding the whole culture of the club, a culture which the support has embraced for decades. Standing up for the oppressed people, remembering our charitable roots, celebrating where we come from and who we are. Celebrating our Irish and Catholic heritage.
