If people think it's wrong for the GB to air their opinion of the poppies at a football match and think there's no place for doing so at Celtic Park - surely there's also no place for the poppy itself on the Celtic strip.

The Poppy is not about just WW1 & WW2 and the good old boys who pounded murdered more civilians in one bombing raid on Dresden than the IRA could ever kill in a thousand years. It's about every British conflict....So lets see...there have been 23 Wars/Conflicts over the 65 years since the end of the War to end all wars! The British have been involved in a war every three years on average. Not to mention the fact they murdered thousands of Irishmen, woman and children for centuries, and you want me to feel ashamed?? I dont feel ashamed of those banners, I feel proud. I feel ashamed we have cowards and war mongers in the boardroom though. As for Politics in Football....who the * said Celtic was just a football club? Our Political support defines us as who we are...otherwise we'd be just like Man U, Liverpool etc. If your only interested in the football then maybe another teams for you.Celtic are a way of life, we are culture, we are more than 90 minutes. Being a Celtic supporter is far more important than mere sport. That's why we have thousands of glory hunters at CP now. We should be more * political. * John Reid and the rest of the huns.

You obviously haven't been to Celtic park in a while then.

Without the gb in the stadium, celtic park would acctually be quieter than a library.

Exactly who is being forced to wear a poppy? Do you know that they disagree with it 100 percent?

There may be some substance to your argument, however is it not up to the club if they want to show their support by wearing the poppy?

And if they chose not to then that is there decision. the problem is not with the GB not supporting it, its the malicious and hurtfull banner that feels like a personal attack on service men and women, current and former!

Simple, if you don't support it don't * buy it, but dont go making a first class * of yourself by throwing * like that out for the world to see, because even though its a small portion, of the support, the world looking in will see that as our complete opinion, which couldn't be further from the truth. I may just be angry but they should do us a favor and * off!

They have a right to voice their opinion, they have no right to use Celtic to do so, there is a time and a place for political protests and Celtic Park is not that place.

The club should have said the players will be asked if they want to wear the poppy or not thus leaving the decision up to the individual players, however, that still does not give the GB the right to use the club to voice their own opinion, that cleary isn't the opinion of all the support. Two wrongs don't make a right. The club stated weeks ago that as of next year a different charity and not poppyscotland would be given the opportunity to raise awarness through their emblem on the Celtic top so why couldn't they have left it at that?

They used the club for their own ends instead of just supporting the team. They were more interested in getting their own point of view across, implying they were speaking for the whole Celtic support instead of being interested in what was best for Celtic Football Club.

Their actions have caused a lot of anger, not just with huns and their media but within our own support as well, there is only one thing that connects all Celtic supporters throughout the world and that is Celtic, everything else should be left at the turnstyle and not be brought into the stadium.

Im with the club on this one. People are entitled to their opinions, but that banner was only ever going to cause controversy and split the support.

I've seen several posts from people who are against the GB protest state that they don't think the poppy should be on the top.

Do you honestly believe every single Celtic fan has the same political beliefs, they don't, they never have and they never will. We are a club open to all regardless of race, religion or political affiliation.

In order to be a Celtic supporter you don't have to be a socialist, or left wing or a republican or Catholic, you can be anything you want to be as long as you have Celtic in your heart.

No-one has any right to say who can and who can not support Celtic.

I'll copy and paste from my other post, because I'm lazy.

If the club don't want the Green Brigade bringing their political and poppy opinions into Celtic Park and feel there's no place for this in football, then why aren't the club abiding by the same rules.

I feel having the poppy on Celtic's shirt is wrong. We are going to see a football match, why do we have to have poppies on the football strips. There's absolutely no need for it, if these players want to wear poppies, then fine - they can wear them before and after they pull on the Celtic strip.

I'd love to see the reaction of Celtic if one player stood up and said he didn't want to wear the poppy and gave his own fair reasons for not doing so, maybe then the club would see how wrong it is in the eyes of many Celtic supporters.

I'm not saying what the Green Brigade did was right or wrong, that could be argued forever with very valid points from both perspectives - however, I think the club need to look at what they are doing wrong.

This negative attention wouldn't been upon the Green Brigade if we didn't have the poppies on the Celtic strip. As I said, it's completely wrong, no need for it on the football strip.

We shouldn't even be having this debate because most people are right, there's absolutely no place for poppies or anything political at Celtic Park, it's a football match - therefore no place for opinions on the poppies and political *.

Also if the board want to show their support, then they can all go out and buy themselves a poppy and wear it, but that's not the point.

Really? That's what you think the poppy is about? Dear me. The flower was chosen precisily because it is a symbol of the frutility of war, not as a glofiication of it. (Although many now seem to treat it like this).

As for politics being a part of who Celtic fans, are you suggesting that people who don't share your views on everything aren't proper supporters? Wouldn't you say that's a rather biggoted view?

Why side with one lot of murderers over another?

yes poppies are to remember the fallen in both world wars, nothing bad about that. However the problem is its interwined with iraq/afghanistan is that part most have a problem with.

remembering those who dies in WWI and II is a good thing, they were fighting against facism.:50:

the soldiers now in iraq and afgnanistan are fighting for imperialism and illegal occupations:38:

Then the club should never have let this situation happen in the first place they know that it causes a split within our support but they dont care the poppy should never been forced on them to wear by the club

Difficult one to judge everyone has their own opinion on this matter and the GB are fantastic on matchdays bringing some much needed noise to CP however hard to explain to my 11 and 9 year old children at half time when they asked what the banners meant would rather they just grew up football fans and with a love for the hoops rather than have to see political banners gives the media something else to deflect away from the whistlegate scandal as they like to refer to it as i realy think we have the sfa rattled with recent events.

I think Celtic are right on this issue. The Green Brigade are entitled to protest outside the ground but should not have been allowed to use the club and the rest of our fans who may not agree with them including people who have fought in the British army to get their message across. People say that the club is being forced but the club and players may want to wear the poppy as a way of remembering the sacrifices of those during the two world wars which included several Celtic players. Unfortunately in these situations the views of the Green Brigade are taken as the views of the whole support. I personally agree with them on several issues the way they went about this protest was totally wrong. They should have stayed away from the ground, protest outside or even hold the protest aginst the wars in a place unconnected with Celtic where they could double or triple the size of crowd by bringing in fans of other teams who also feel passionate on this issue.

Don't know if it's been posted but the club are endeavouring to ban those responsible.

I can see * hitting the fan either way over this.

Your right, anyone can support Celtic. However the vast majority of our support used to be supporters of the irish Republican movement. I was at CP supporting the "war" effort in Ireland when the "statesmen" were soldiers. I am not anti war...I am anti Imperialist. I stand by what I said...we used to be a politically aware support. We took the side of those persecuted in wars all over the world. We now are reduced to saying sorry for our beliefs. Shame on the Celtic board.
