Celtic ban poppy sellers from ground.

I don't see how anyone could possibly argue against the white poppy as it remembers all war dead and symbolises a wish for peace.

 

I do wear a poppy but not to support The British Army, in rememberance of those who died for freedom and all that jazz, I don't think such a big thing should be made of it, I don't think anyone would even notice if all the huns didn't insist on all the evil old Celtic bollocks, I think all of this is much ado about nothing, if you want one fine, if you dont also fine, each to their own.

The decision to "ban" (tabloid fabrication) poppy sellers from Paradise is not a big deal IMO.

The decision to blight the hoops with a symbol of * British imperialism is a big deal in my eyes however. It's not what we are about as a club and we never will be.

 

I have never/will never wear a red poppy in my life...may consider wearing a white poppy but that is a personal choice.

I dont agree with this poppy sewn onto the shirts either....pretty sure not all the players wish to wear poppies so that is breaching upon their beliefs also.

The British Army slaughtered thousands of Scots as well. Men, Women and Children. It doesn't stop Scots wearing them to show their appreciation for the Men and Women who fought Hitler.

All this poppy and anti Irish nonsense is bollox. Many Irish died fighting Hitler. Don't let the idiots that have hijacked the poppy win.

well i don't know if this is true but my dada told me when i was a boy the only reason a lot of the irish agreed to fight in WW2 was because they were promised independence if they did but churchill refused it after the war. Can anyone put me right on this?

 

I want to say that I am not against raising money for the First World War veterans for Nov 11 1918 when Germany signed an armistice agreement.
Please note WW2 ended in may.

For all those who risked their life to protect Europe, well done and * rest all your souls, be it Scottish, English, Welsh, Belgian, French, Austrians, New Zealand, America and some of the Irish.

The problem is, they are all dead now.

So why are we still buying poppies?
Where does the money go?
Why are they still using this date?

I would hate to find out it was going to the British army of today’s solders that had anything to do with Iraq or Afghanistan.

I am totally against anything to do with either of these invasions and I would hate to be seen wearing anything that looks to be condoning them in any way.

I've no idea mate. I don't wear one. I don't mind them though as long as it's for the men and women draughted in. Am not into 'supporting the trOOps'. Professional soldiers chOOse to fight wars illegal or otherwise, the draughted never.

In 2008, it spent a total of £101.2m; on care services £18.4m, community welfare services £41.6m, Remembrance and ceremonial £3.2m and funds generation £23.9m. The charity says that for every pound raised, 80p goes towards achieving objectives while 6.6p goes on support costs.

The fact that they choose to join the army and are willing to fight anywhere they are ordered,makes them no better than mercenaries[imo]

 

Why do we have this thread every year ? Every year the republican element get all upset , Lets just all grow up and do our own thing to remember the millions that have lost their lives defending us .

 

And quite rightly so, * orange *, what's this for again, yes the Earl Hague Fund, a man who deployed albeit dirty Brit soldiers in the first world war, to use as cannon fodder. Effectively murdering hundreds of soldiers!!
