Ah, much clearer. I skimmed the artical from that site as it wasn't the original artical n only seen "I'm a christian"

The artical, original and the linked one is just a complete non-story. I don't know or care for what the religion of any other ref in the country is.

Terrible excuse for journalism! He was my teacher for two years and never intimated an affection for anything other than teaching and refereeing. Be under no illusion he will be anything but honest and fair in his decisions.

Other than the contentious headline, which they could have avoided (but then the whole thing wouldn't be a story), the article doesn't seem to be offensive in any way

"His faith even saw him feature in a Sunday newspaper earlier this year as, prompted by the kind of risible internet supporter conspiracy which still lays bare the worst elements of the Old Firm rivalry, he was forced to defend the small cross he has attached to his referee's whistle.

"It's because I'm a Christian person," Collum was quoted as saying. "I don't believe anyone could question my honesty. I'm stunned."

Doesn't seem like they're attacking him, they seem to be on his side against the paranoid internet "fans" of which we all know neither team is exactly golden.

Why for all these years has it been ok for all the others ref's who carried out the task been deemed to be fair just because they went to a protestant school and the minute someone from a Catholic school gets the job there is a problem.

I do think the crucifix on his whistle is a bit extreme. I myself wear one, but it is always underneath my top. It will make it a lot harder for him to do his job tomorrow, which could be detrimental to the result in our favour.

Who gives a * about his religion or his job or whatever, he is a referee and should be using the same rules as anyone else, wherever.

I've just read the actual article from the Scotsman, and it's nowhere near as anti-catholic as some here are making out to believe, if being anti-catholic at all.

Yes, they shouldn't have brought up the fact he's an RE teacher, but in a country so spiteful and bigoted about religion & the old-firm, what can ye expect?

I wish we all turned * atheist sometimes. Regardless, I won't be buying the Scotsman again. Then again, as a staunch nationalist, I don't buy the Labourite newspapers anyway.

dont care wot religion he is ,we only want a fair ref is it to much to ask, does anyone know if he has given bad decisions against ,us this would disprove the theory he will favour us.
i am still worried that the person in charge of refereeing in scotland thinks hoopers wasnt a pen,* sake the first tackle was a definite ,the second most would give .
this is wot i want to see happen ,show the footage to a panel of refs outwith this country and see how many think it wasnt, then take it to sfa show them why our refs cant get it right ,cauz the person in charge cant.
