Celtic players who could have been legends

Discussion in 'Celtic Chat' started by JohnBhoyCfc1, Oct 5, 2010.

  1. The first player that springs to my mind is McDonald, if he stayed longer he would of. Mowbray is a * for pushing him out and bringing in a striker on loan when now we have just been left with neither of them.

  2. du wei :bbpd:

  3. Don't go there :56: people will start hitting out with Scheidt soon.

EDIT: I chuckled "hitting out with *" :56:

  4. sorry mate lol

  5. What does it take to get to legendary status? Doing what Henke did or do you include guys like Thompson, Lambert, Burley, Hartson and Sutton?

  6. To serve the club for a long period of time and to be loved by the fans.

  7. Ok. Rieper is one I would say:50:

  8. Or to do something that is heroic or to save the club. The whole 97/98 team that stopped 10 are legends and no-one can say they're not.

  9. paul elliot brian mcclair di canio are 3 that spring to mind

  10. McDonald was an excellent player for us but i highly doubt he had the potential to be a legend. The fact he cost us the Championship in 2005 would always count against him being considered a legend. I'm not saying i agree that should have an effect but it was always there, at the back of your mind.

Plus the fact he was a moany * who kept leaking stories to the press, something which should always result in the club getting rid of a player.

  11. di canio , van hoojidonk , liam miller, ramon vega

  12. Donati and jvoh

  13. di canio van hoojidonk cadete, what a season they had. a would say more heros than legends. loved them all thou!

  14. simon donnelly

  15. mark burchill...what a start he made,then downhill fast

  16. Probably coming a bit from the leftfield here but I think if we had played Robson in CM as a first pick instead of Brown he could have been a massive player & fans favourite. Maybe not a legend as such but I don't know.

He skelped huns, scored important goals, gave it 100% all the time, won us the league with Hartley in CM and was willing to play just about anywhere for us.

I know he wasnt the most gifted player and his right leg would have been as well being painted on but if he'd been given the right chances I think he could have been one of the players who would have changed the last couple of seasons.

  17. Donati, JVOH, Barry Robson IMO. Barry gave us his all and i also think that had he not been at celtic for 1/2 TM season rangers could have wrapped it up long before then. Am i the only guy that was extremely dissapointed he was sold?

For me anyway, barry gets a little slice of a ledgend status :50:

  18. If load signings count then Keane (Robbie), Bellamy and Viduka.

Paolo Di Canio, but i still loved him though. I even spray painted my football boots gold when i was younger haha. I think Paul Hartley if he had signed earlier in his career. Thought it was a terrible decision to let him go
