Just going through some videos from the amazing nights in the CL and Celtic Park we have had, Barcelona, Benfica, Ac Milan, Man united etc, just wondering your views on our current european situation, can we ever get back to beating massive teams on a regular basis at CP again, or should we now concentrate on the SPL and the odd good run in the europe league?

Quite depressing how I am sure all of us at some point in the past used to brag about our home form in the CL when people are taking the *, last season we were poor and this year is even worse in many respects, coming against two beatable teams in Braga and Utrecht and failing in both away from home.

With the current state in Scottish football, are we ever going to be a threat in the CL?

I know alot of people will post with comments such as 'lets focus on the spl for now' which I agree with 100% but imo when you think of Celtic, you think of the history of the club and the stature of the club and our massive fan base and the idea we have failed to qualify for the CL for the past 2 seasons is wrong and depressing.

Is Lenny the right man to bring the classic CL night's and spl titles back to CP? Realistically can we ever compete with the top european clubs or are our best years well and truly behind us?

I think Champions League will become a thing of the past in all honesty. It will be one of those things that may come around every 3 or 4 years but we aren't good enough to win those qualifiers just to get there i'm afraid. We will become successful in Scotland agin, no doubt of that. Hopefully this season.:50:

Id like to think so, WGS done it with a tiny budget, so I think Lennon can aswell, give him a season or two and I think we may get some of those nights back.

Football can be a strange thing that you cant really ever predict, look at the fall of such teams as Leeds and Nottingham and the rise of clubs like Lyon and Man City. Ten years from now anything could happen.

Can't see us getting into Europe in 5 years, and 15 years we could go the way of the League of Ireland/Wales (no disrespect to those leagues). If you look our signings are getting less pricey and we're less and less competive compared to other teams.
    However , noone knows.

can anyone on this forum tell the future? didn't think so. no one knows what will happen in the next decade or so. we could win the league this year, qualify for the champions league next year and be beating real madrid 1-0 at cp in the last 16. who knows?

I think thats a bit extreme. We are guarentee'd some form of European football if we finish atleast 4th.

And the only way the SPL would be similar to the League of Ireland and/or Wales is if the Old Firm leave Scotland to join the EPL.

I took my son and daughter to Sevlle and we were lucky enough to be given three final tickets based on our attendance in the Away Supporters scheme at time, I said then to my kids enjoy it, it might never happen again. I'm not being negative, I think more realistic if anything, but unless the bubble burst's in European football countries like Scotland, Sweden, Holland, Belgium, Norway are desitined for Europe's backwaters forever.

If the EPL lost Sky and Uefa banned clubs with more than 50 Mil of debt we would see a far more level playing field. The reality is that clubs like Chelsea, Spurs, etc rely on their owners and Sky and not their supporter base for funds, these guys are really small time compared to Man UTD, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Milan, Inter and even Celtic and Rangers when it comes down to actual supporters around the world, if that were the true criteria we would certainly be sitting at the top table in terms of supported teams in Europe.

I can't see it anytime soon. Maybe a win in the playoff at Celtic Park, but we will find some way to * up away from home. We always do.

There are a lot of teams in europe who have seen better days in the past. Look at Ajax, PSV, Feyenoord, Benfica, Sporting, FC Porto ...
All of them aren´t in such a good condition at the moment.
Celtic is also one of those teams but we have to come back and´ll be back as soon as Scottish football improved.
