Maloney's are best player this year, from edge of box to edge of box. With that I'll agree. But he's been crap on the end of things. If he were finishing this year we'd have won that St. Mirren game 7 or 8 to nil and the Motherwell game at least 2-0. Not only that, Maloney wasn't going to score four goals. You only get three changes and everyone was bad that night. I'm not saying Lennon doesn't deserve some criticism, but it certainly wasn't because he "wasn't working the game".

I said domestic results NOW. I know about the money problems not getting into europe has and im gutted we are not there but the thread isnt about the money its about Neil Lennons results as manger. On the topic of europe, the braga game came to early for us and the utrecht was just a total disaster. All im saying that from the original question about Neil Lennons record so far is that he should be judged at this and NOT friendlies.

Our focus is the league this year, i love CL nights, but until we can win our own trophy i think we should be focusing on that.

I never expected 11 new players and a new management team to do anything in europe.

Not even a handful of European games played, and he's been "found out in Europe". Ye couldn't make it up. :56:

We've done without it the last 2 years...so I doubt it is actually counted into a gaurenteed source of income by the Celtic money men. I'm sure they have plans with what to do with it if we qualify, but saying the club needs European football is wide of the mark.

His record really started this season for me. Last season with the league gone and having to be really bad to blow 2nd basically meant there was no pressure and some meaningless games too. So the run last season really doesnt tell us much. So far this season its a mixed bag. He won the SPL games against small teams but he has blown 2 European competitions. The slightly worrying thing is Lenny has blown the three biggest stand-alone important games of his career so far - THe Scottish cup, Braga and Utrecht, none of them against great sides. However, I do like the players he has brought in this season and they need to gel. So jury is out.

I'm not a huge Lennon fan, but I don't understand why people keep saying this. Even if you do rank a Scottish Cup game against Ross County as "important", then Lennon has presided over FIVE important games - one against Ross County, two against Braga, and two against Utrecht - two of which we won.

And anyone who reckons Braga weren't all that great presumably didn't watch them put four past Sevilla - in Sevilla.

I feel Lennon has had a reasonable start to his managerial career. Unbeaten in the SPL and two decent wins in Europe, fair enough the loss against Utrecht was poor, but Braga were no push over as the Sevilla game has proven, so all in all Lenny's not done too bad.
Heres hoping he continues to get the wins and we bring the league flag back home.

rangers have had all of it for 2 seasons and we have help'ed clear some more debt, if you think for one min that we don't need money from europe then you need to wake up, also who is it wide of the mark that we need european football we need the points fot scotland so we don't have to play 2 or 3 games from next year before the groups, and this has happend, now we will fall far behind teams to try and get new players in and have less money

this is to the fans who think we don't need europe, wake the * up do you think we will be going forward if we can't even get into the champions leauge and even the europa leauge? do you really think we can go forward? get better players to come and play for celtic? look at what has hapeend in 2 seasons at celtic park, crownds gone down less money at the club.....

but yeah we don't need europe....... bullshit

    Exactly!

No point moaning about Europe now...it's done....get over it!

League is number1 priority this year.

Then hopefully for Europe next year we will have a proper, settled team with hopefully a few quality additions.

Don't put pressure on an inexperienced manager who has just walked into the managerial door for us. It will make things worse. * the friendlies, its the competitive games I care about.

the people that bang on about europe dont realise that we were never gonna go far in it. the league is the only thing that matters for us, get behind the team for that.

We accept that we aren't ready for Europe but fans who say we can do without Europe year on year are just mad, i think in another post a link to a financial report was done, and it explains exactly what europe gives celtic and what it takes away when we are not in it. Revenue when not in Europe : 59-63M, revenue when in Europe : 67-75M. Thats just participating in the group stages not even going far, look at the difference and change your stance on European participation without it we will become like Hibs we will no longer able to afford 20,30k a week wages and only able to afford rejects from Championship clubs get real we need it and thats the only way forward for celtic to get better players.

The European capitulation was pretty inexcusible. The SPL we are doing fine but haven't quite been tested properly yet. So the early report is - OK but could be doing better.

If he keeps up his SPL record we will win the league.

The Europe thing angers us at the time but when you take a step back no Celtic team is ever going to do something in Europe when it's just had 11 new players added to the squd. We need more than individuals when we're going abroad to try and beat sides that have a nucleus that has been there for several years. If we win the league we can have a decent crack at Europe with a settled side.

come the end of the season if we are champions people will look back and agree what was more important.

europe came too soon for a club trying to rebuild and gel.

also i totally disagree with people saying the braga defeat was so bad when they sent sevilla packing
