i think its a mixture of the delivery and the players in the box. We don't have the physical presences like we used to in Hartson, Sutton, Balde, Varga, Valgaeren etc. We aren't too great in terms of delivery - we used to rely on Naka/ Thommo for this but we haven't properly replaced them. Hopefully the new CB can be a presence in the box

Mulgrew was unluckynot to score. Defo not play ledley LB. £6 mill rated midfielder should not be played at LB. Mulgrew's deliveries shall improve

Did Juarez not take some good corners in Pre-Season?. We were spoilt with Naka's excellent delievers over the years, however i was wondering how anyone could Mulgrew as a set peice expert.

I thought most of mulgrews deliveries were decent bordering on good. The problem was noone was attacking ball.

I hoped at least Hooiveld would get in a chance, but no. It's true that we lack taller players, in the current team. Playing 3 taller CB-s at once might help. A back 3 of Hooiveld, Majstorović and Rogne would be a decent goal threat.

Dodgy first 1/2 hour, cracking 2nd half. Maloney was outstanding, Brown really came into it 2nd half, Marco and Sammy put in a really good shift. Only problem is the finishing. If we miss as many really good chances as we did today on a regular basis then we'll struggle against teams who don't allow us that many chances. I also think we need to start playing Rasmussen and/or Hooper, have a striker who'll stay in the box. Too many of our chances today came from wide areas around the penalty box and it was Sammy and Fortuné who were creating them rather than getting on the end of them.

yes i watched the game. a lot of people are getting used to watching mediocracy and giving, at best average players high pass marks. To me that is very worrying

Thought we were excellent 2nd half today. Samaras, Maloney, Fortune and Ledley were all very good and put in solid performances.
Cha and Hooiveld were class at the back and with Majstorovic and a new LB that defence will be pretty good.
Just happy we got off with a win in a tough game and does Paddy know how to score a "normal" goal? Ha well in big man :50:

Fire a quick ball into the six yard box and have the big men throw themselves at it. The best football is the simple football.

Back three's are redundant. They're ineffective against a lone striker and vulnerable against the 4-3-3. It's pointless anything that isn't a 2-striker formation. That's partly why one-striker formations became popular in the first place. Not a lot of point in getting an extra big man in for a corner if you can't set yourself up right in open play.

No. Don't you remember how we scored a lot from those, especially Mick and Jan?

3-5-2, MON style would work. And open up a spot for an extra CB who comes up on set pieces. Though, finding a good set piece taker comes first.
