The point your making is wrong only in that celtic dont go out and buy players that spring to mind,we go out and find gems and sell on for profit and we only do that cause we cant match epl wages.
I would be more worried about selling hoooper because it might send a message to our other big players.

I think in the season we made over 20million in cl we could let his contract run down some more.

And to be honest i dont think hooper wants to stay.......he is only young and already wants £££££££££££££££ over :62:

    Absolutely baseless assumption.

Am I right that I read somewhere that Scunthorpe have a 20% sell on clause in his transfer agreement? If that's the case, we'd only be getting 4 mil out of this deal with would only be a ~1.6 mil profit. Makes no business sense at all.

I think it's a poor show on how the board have left it this late to sort a deal out for hooper , if he says on the summer i want to go then we will defo have to take less what we should be getting for him!

Im pretty confident they've been trying to get him to sign a contract for a few months at least, same with wanyama.

Having had a wee look at a Norwich forum they keep banging on about "better standard of opposition". There's no great financial disparity in potential pay (unlike other bigger EPL sides) so it's their only carrot to dangle.

However, the truth is this: If you are a good player for Norwich, you will be treated as just that - just a good player for Norwich. On the other hand, if you are a good player for Celtic, you are a demi-*. Something they can't, and can never offer.

When he finishes his career I am sure he would rather show his kids his medals and Champions League Celtic shirts than newspaper clippings about the time he played Man United in the league.

That is it in a nutshell really and if he does fancy Norwich as a better proposition than Celtic at this juncture he is a fool and not the type of player we want at the club. I don't think Hooper is that player or person.

Absolutely. I am under no illusions that he will definitely never leave. He may fancy another challenge at some point. But if I was Gary, I'd be thinking - "What if I score against Juventus? What if I KO Juventus? The entire footballing world will be watching!" Also, he may be thinking - "If I stay at Celtic, I can experience this every year!" Both are very reasonable outlooks.

Compare it with this: "If I sign for Norwich and do well, Man Utd might sign me and Fergie might pap RVP on the bench!"..........I know Charlie said that Gary was thick.....I doubt he's that thick! :50:

Medals don't buy you a big * house and a Lamborghini though, do they?

Besides tbh they will be "just" SPL etc medals. Hardly anything for anybody with any ambition to get excited about.

The facts are these : money speaks louder than any amount of Mickey Mouse league medals ever will. To some players.

It does. And Norwich don't have enough of it.

the offer is an insult, no doubt about it, and it worries me that if this was his advisors who leaked it then they're certainly trying to turn his head. I'm happy for him to leave in summer if that's what he wants; he's been a great servant to this club for the last 2 and half years and has helped us hugely in getting to where we are now, but having him distracted for the Juventus game is unacceptable.

If he isn't going to sign a new contract I'd sell him in this window if a reasonable offer is made.

They could and will offer him a lot more than us. If they offer him £40k a week would be near double what our wage cap stands at.
And you can guarantee that if he keeps them up with his goals he will get a nice fat bonus and an increase in wages.

We can't compete with even tiddlers like them while they are in the EPL when it comes to wages unfortunately.

Norwich aren't massive spenders on wages and will probably over him 30k p/w.
now if Scott brown is on about that...why shouldn't hooper? He's our top scorer and deserves to be a top earner.

It's £30,000 p/w they are offering. And Gary's representatives don't make the decision. With 18 months left on his contract, they don't yet have much leverage considering what we have coming up. And he hasn't expressed a desire to leave. Apart from the fact we know we have rejected a bid, everything else is conjecture whilst some of it is absolutely baseless.

If we get a bid of £8m i would sell him now as he as 18 months on his deal , he will not sign a new deal for me , in the summer with 12 months on his deal we will be looking at £5m max.

We sold Ki when he had less than 12 months remaining and got more than 5 mill for him. Hooper is a far better player, and in far hiugher demand, than Ki ever was.
We will get considerably more than 5 million * pounds for Gary Hooper when we choose to sell him.
