I thought Samaras was Celtic's best player last night and would like to see him play as left midfielder again since he could actually be of more use in that position.

However should the right offer come in I would happily sell him and invest the money in a striker that can regularly score goals.

If he gets the same "backing" that Sammi gets, he'll be asking his agent for a move before the season starts. :56:

haah, seriously, sammy takes torrents of abuse before he's even touched the ball sometimes, if that's backing him I'd hate to see what happens when the crowd turns on him.

When on form Sammy is untouchable in the spl, but he's the worst confidence player I've ever seen in the hoops, if the fans did back him properly rather than screaming personal insults everytime he goes near the ball I think we'd get more out of him.

Last season whenever Keane missed a good chance, there'd be a chorus of KEANO going round, if it was Sammy the jeers would have been deafening.

Murphy is getting slated and he hasn't even kicked a ball for us. Give the guy a chance. His previous record may not be great but you have to give the guy a chance.

Can't stand the abuse he gets from the "fans" - its sickening.
All the attributes are there for him to be a good player. Just needs the fans off his back and a bit of confidence in his own game and he'll be back scoring regularly for us.

He always gives 110% and you can see shades of talent and something special, its just masked by stupid errors. I'd keep him, unless we got a big offer, he can run with the ball, and he does create something, just not always positivie.
Also (and this is a serious point). He is used to often as an escape goat , if we lost him someone else would suddenly start getting lots of undeserved critism.

That's the problem. Fans don't give backing to the players. If he's sold then so be it - but Lenny might be the man to get him playing as he did when he was so successful in Holland.

if his confidence is high an the supporters actually "support" our own player i feel that sammy is our best striker atm

considering we bought sammy for £1M anything above that is a profit but since lennon looks like might play 4-3-3 with two wingers i think sammy should stay because whenever he plays left wing for greece he has played really well and also he put in a great half there last night. however £3M+ and he's gone.

Yes, I noted that very clearly at the time.

Totally ironic too, cos Keane would manage fine if the fans gave him a hard time -
whereas it's completely counterproductive with Sammy.

Almost makes you think certain Celtic "supporters" want him to fail - which is unacceptable in my book. :38:

Daryl Murphy's signing, for example, dismays me - but I would never boo him if he was on the field of play wearing the Hoops.

Every Celtic player gets my support on the pitch, whatever he's done in the past, short of being a rapist or a war criminal.

So barring John Reid getting a game, the dilemma doesn't arise. :56:

My main gripe with Samaras, apart from him being * at times, sometimes he just doesnt give a *.

I remember the Aalborg away game and he just looked like he could not be arsed.

I had a small revelation about that last night.

He was playing great - tearing it up - and then I had to go thru to the other room for a wee bit. When I came back, there he was, slouching about in the midfield, looking like he just couldnae give a *. I thought to myself - "* me, Samaras has totally dropped out the game again".

And then - literally about two seconds later - despite the ball being on the opposite side of the pitch, he had both arms in the air, wanting it played to him. Didn't get it, but then a few more seconds and he was making a lung bursting run down the centre of the park.

I think it's just the way he carries himself - he looks as if he's not arsed, but he's just conserving energy. People notice it when he's having a bad game & not seeing much of the ball. But if you watch him closely, he looks just the same off the ball when he's playing a blinder. Slouch, slouch, then * bang. Reckon it surprises the * out of defenders at times.

I think he actually cares a lot, and the pressure of that sometimes gets to him. :shamrock:

Last season was a total washout for Samaras theres no doubts about it, but not at one point did i boo any players on the pitch. Fans are well within their rights to moan if a player is consistently failing to produce the goods and that is exactly what was happening with Samaras last season. If he doesn't have it in him to produce a game because people are moaning etc then he has to grow a set IMO. I hope he has a good season this year and i will give my support to all players on the pitch, as long as they look as if they are trying to win:50:
