As a New York Celt, praying it happens. Would love to sit in a TalkCeltic section. Also will probably make the 10 hour.. or whatever it is.. drive to Vancouver.

BBC gossip column yesterday said Celtic and rangers could get £23m for it. Thats a lot of money, which would hopefully be spent by us on new players, as it is unexpected and therefore not already been assigned to be spent on anything specific.
As for people saying its a terrible idea, I would extremely doubt the huns over in the US and Canada would be as bad as the ones from Scotland and Northern Ireland. I might be wrong, but I can't see much trouble from them as by all accounts we have far greater numbers of supporters over there. It wouldn't be as much drink fuelled as it is either when rangers are in Europe and their fans let them down there. Remember, there are decent rangers fans out there, i'm living with one next year at uni!

Fenway Park food and drink are exorbitantly priced, and you can only bring in one sandwich or sub but not alcohol. Inside you're limited to 2 beers per purchase, and you must present ID. You best bet is to eat and drink elsewhere before you go to the game.

And at $8 a beer, you'll have to take out a bank loan to get properly sauced

IMO not a good idea. Yeah we'll get a wad of cash but so will the manky mob, do we really want to help ease their financial situation? Also they would hack our team to bits leaving us a weakened side for the start of the next season.

Baseball crowds are not nearly as volatile as what football crowds are in general, and even a Yankees-Red Sox game it would be a freak occurance for it to generate the same level of vitriol as the Glasgow derby does, even before considering how the concession stands would impact. There is a very good reason that alchohol is banned from football stadiums here.

To anyone in Boston who think this is a good idea all they need to do is google 'R****** fans in Manchester'.

As for whoever it was that somehow conjured up the preposterous figure of £23m that will be generated by this match, my question would be - how? Thats about US$50m - or roughly a quarter of the Red Sox annual revenue (US$206m - according to Forbes.com).

In other words a 'friendly' between 2 teams who come from a relatively small country, who play each other no less than 4 times a season anyhow, will certainly create interest in the soccer community in North America (& here), but where MLS interests fall a long way short of the established order of MLB, NBA, NHL, NFL , yet somehow is going to generate the same amount of money as what the Red Sox do over 40 games...

I don't know what the person who conjured up that figure was smoking, but I'd like to send a sample away for analysis !!!

I hope this does not happen. Firstly there can never be such a thing as a friendly with them. Secondly and more importantly for me this is like the old firm tag. Doing something like this associates us with them. That is something we need to get away from.
We are a great club with a positive world wide appeal and image and we need to stop associating ourselves with them in any way shape or form including this proposal.

Yes we do, whether we like it or not, we need Rangers. So I do hope they can sort out their financial situation and get out of the red.

I find it a sad day when we need to devalue our derby by whoring ourselves across the atlantic with them for a few bob.

We claim to have one of the biggest derbies in the world yet we up sticks and take it over there like some kind of exhibition?

Would you see Barca/Real, Boca/River doing this kind of thing?

    Not a * chance.

why can't we play the usa team?

WHY DO WE HAVE TO HAVE A "FRIENDLY" WITH ORANGE PIG SCUM?:47:

celtic don't do friendlies and neither do i, especially when it comes to the huns. we could get as much money playing another team like usa perhaps or the top mls team.:50:

it's a * disgrace we should have to have a friendly with them, a club alot of us profess to hate..it would only contradict such ideology.

    * rangers and * their 'country'.:celt_2:

you do realize that you are 5 hours AHEAD of us right, its not like me waking up at 7 am to watch an SPL match, the game hear will probably be around 1 pm which would be 6 pm for you

If it's on a Wednesday as proposed, then the game would most likely start around 7 or 7:30 our time on the east coast which would be 12-12:30am their time.

Nothing finalized, obviously. What are you betting men saying? I think (and hope) it will go ahead. Too great an opportunity, in terms of revenue and exposure, to pass by.

Not if its at fenway mate, MLB has a rule that during baseball season not stadium can be used for a non Baseball event after that starts after 6pm, this is for TV reasons reasons and also if a MLB game needs to be rescheduled, so any Old Firm game will probably be at around 1 or 4 pm, unless it is at Gilette stadium
